I recall introducing the wording "Whenever ~ enters combat" for exactly this reason.
I think the correct way to do so in current templating would be using an if-clause.
Actually, I somehow read the effect as just "Whenever ~ attacks, ..." so that skewed my view on it.
Have you considered the loner mechanic of "as long as you control no other creatures, ..."?
Since the base form is very similar to Replace Soul, I might replace that with something else. Not in the set yet, but I might replace (((Yaoguai Summoning))) with this.
Death-blink. Mostly used in limited for triggering Bequeath at instant speed for when you really need menace or lifelink or something, but you can use it in other formats with stuff like Brindle Shoat, Abyssal Gatekeeper, Undying/Persist cards, Perilous Myr, one of the Zuberas, Voice of Resurgence...
+3/+3 seems kind of, dichotomous (is that even a word?) and a bit too strong, but I'd probably be open to making it 3/3 that gets +2/+2. Encourages attacking alone more.
Well, personally I thought Ambush Viper was one of the best commons in triple ISD - it's not called "green Doom Blade" for nothing.
That being said, this is costed similar to the less-impressive deathtouch creatures - Daggerback Basilisk and Greater Basilisk, respectively. I figure being able to flash it in is worth +1/+3 in stats. Most Reflex cards function as removal spells, so they all fall into the 3-6 range in terms of costs.
+1/+1 is such a minor bonus IMO that it feels weird to even have it. .. Could it be a 3/3 that gets +3/3? Kinda feels right.
So is Ambush Viper like the most busted thing ever? That reflex cost is harsh. I know about the "Softer Removal" goal, but man.
6/6 -> 6/5 Lots of two/three power creatures. Needs to be more consistently double-blocked.
3/2 -> 2/2.
3/4 -> 4/4.
1/1 -> 1/2. Spreading out P/Ts.
No longer has Menace. 1/1 -> 2/2.
1/2 -> 1/1. Spreading out P/Ts.
2/1 -> 2/2. Spreading out P/T ratios. Added "attacks each turn if able" so it's not insane red bear. Reflavored.
By virtue of being one of the few tales from that culture I know this is one of my favorites. Really an interesting execution of the theme, too. :)
Added flavor text.
Added flavor text. Adjusted name.

Now kills two (tiny) birds with one card. Might be too swingy for a common.
Anti-red "counterspell" in addition to single-target damage prevention. Maybe a little too strong at 4 mana?
Yeah, a {+} denotes that it's an ability that can be bequeathed.
I figure that the P/T is reasonable since I want a creature that, by itself, can't (shouldn't) be ignored. If it ends up being a little too strong, I can adjust it to be a 2/2. Given its susceptibility to various forms of removal that get around indestructible, the main way for this to pass on its abilities will be your own actions - sacrificing it, redirecting damage to it (i.e. Honored Concubine).
Huh; it's actually kind of amusing. Because what you have is a small-to-middling sized (far too cheap) indestructible combat critter - and what you want, is for it to die so it can make your awesome big creature indestructible. Which is won't.
So I guess this ends up being a very good target for everything else to bequeth onto.
Is it intended that the + goes with the bequeathed ability, or not?
