At minimum its a Bump in the Night without flashback, so I think its okay. Or its Dash Hopes for
with the ability to scale further, which is a fair enough cost because Dash Hopes was pretty garbage. Better in aggressive decks and late game than in control decks.

Doing the match on twice/thrice, it's not at the power level I want - at thrice, X=2 is already a hefty enough life payment, and X=3 is pretty much a guaranteed counterspell unless you're really behind. Twice is within the realm of acceptable to me, but I'd rather load up the front end for a cheaper counterspell than potentially getting punishing at higher mana costs.
