Nice story. I love the idea of all of the Mirrans being legendary. Is this just one set, or might it be a block? If it is a block, you can't actually represent all of the Mirrans in the first set, because then there wouldn't be any left for the other sets.
Yeah. I talked about Legendary Commons on Ibok's Eartalker but don't go there yet. I want a raw opinion. What do you think of this?
Haha, go ahead. It certainly wasn't a criticism. :-)
I only plan to have one spellbomb, since, well, Shalahd told you. I'm not sure what effect to go for, but I wanted something that didn't mess with the math like Giant Growth spellbomb would.
Also, is it me, or were the original spellbombs better? I know people would rather get an effect and draw a card, but the second generations weren't very clean, design-wise.
You know, I'm going to take this as a complement because the idea, in itself, is intuitive. :D
I could have sworn one of the submissions dealt with Venser taking refugees from Mirrodin to a primitive plane to live on... though maybe I'm fusing multiple things in my head.
Hmm... there's one that deals with something like a primitive planet, and I know another one dealt with a Hybrid vs. not Hybrid design. I don't think any of them pulled a Swiss Family Robinson as far as plot is concerned. What are you picking up on Link?
Really? I don't remember. Let me check the submissions.
Your description sounds a lot like one of the GDS2 sets.
5 mana is probably right for a common Putrefy.
Hahaha!
I couldn't get this guy out of my head, so one more card. Atticus is the reason why our group of intrepid expolorers were able to get off of Mirrodin in the first place. He's a mad genius of a Vedalken, who's unafraid of asking questions, then using whatever answer he deems appropriate. His initial field work into Moriok necromancy lost him a lot of friends in the Lumengrid, but Atticus never had much need for friends. Besides, he wasn't particularly interested in a future in necromancy... he just didn't know much about it and was expanding his knowledge base.
The Mirrans that are left on Glorica know that Atticus is dangerous. He goes too far with his experiments. But they probably wouldn't be able to operate without him, so they put up with him. They know that Atticus wants the same thing that they do, the continuation of the species. As long as the colony works to preserve Atticus and his research, Atticus will work to protect them. What the Mirrans don't know is that Atticus is working hard to clone the crew, and plans dispose of the original crew once his work is complete.
On the card: As I mentioned before, Atticus, like the rest of the Mirrans have a very splashable cost. Also, he's Legendary... obviously. But the idea in this set is that all the Mirrans are Legendary. There are so few Mirrans that made the jump, that I plan on making a card for each one of them and having them fill up the Rare and Uncommon slots (and maybe a common Legendary creature for someone's child, or for Beboop.) Also, most Mirrans shouldn't have access to Glorican mechanics, but Atticus is an early adopter, and a survivor. I find it funny that black is probably the most open-minded color. For such an 'evil' color, it has the occasional admirable trait.
Also, as Grenda is developing, she seems to do a lot of shouting. I was planning on making Grenda an odd Red Leonin, lead by her heart more than her head...
That's a harsh casting cost, I know... but that's a fairly versatile spell. I'll work on it.
This card does a good job explaining where the set's flavor is going, so it seems like a good place to stop for the night.
Am I seeding plot arcs for New Mirrodin expansions already? Maybe I am...
More 'intertwined magic' from Glornica, and another chance to see how alien this world is to the Mirrans.
Changed to any color as per Nyelidar, since these creatures are gearing up to be monsters, exalted doesn't make sense... and since they aren't the Mirrans, Battle Cry is out. Sorry to reneg on the voting system, but it looks like we're a little locked into:
Though, I might switch green and red to spice things up. Then again, it's probably better to put very common provoke on the color that offers X/1s.
Spun from (((Undead Gemworker))), there's bound to be a cycle of 3/3s with two abilities as well. I needed to cut down on space, so I allowed players to just choose the colors they want, even if it isn't one of the three. That seems like a good plan for the Gemworker as well, so I'm going to revert that as well. Gem counters are making less sense now... why would monsters be holding gems? This isn't DnD.
