Good point and fair enough.
I don't know. Invasion had Razorfoot Griffin, which could have attacked as a 6/6 flying first striker on turn 5 with SoU (assuming 4 colours; 7/7 if a turn 3 Harrow got you to full Domain). On the occasions that people manage it, they'll feel awesome, but I don't think it should be that frequent.
I'd say to try this as it is; if it's a problem then by all means bump it to Uncommon.
I know, but it's killer in the set. Look at what this would do to Ionized Nantuko alone if you payed four colored mana. The card would be a 8/9 First Striking, Trampling monster attacking on round 5. It's enough to make me think that this card is destined for uncommon.
It's just confounding because I've always liked SoU, but thought that it was just a tad below the curve to be taken seriously. In set this is a monster, but outside set, it's much worse. Just odd.
Ha. This seems worse than SoU to me, because that would increase its bonus if you draw your missing land type the turn after you cast the Aura. See also Opaline Bracers.
Hmm. When making this card, I sought to make an enchantment that was generally better than Strength of Unity. Obviously, those counters have a use outside of the aura, but I didn't get away with strictly better. I could up the cc to 5, but, again, not better. I don't know why that bugs me. This card seems plenty powerful for a common.
I got to thank you one more time for this Vietenka. I am going to bury the Sunburst X spells into the ground. I love how it will confound some players as they try to figure out what happened to
.
Er... FWIW, "if" isn't a trigger. Triggered abilities have "when", "whenever" or "at". Always. "If" is generally only used as a condition inside triggers, as in the "intervening `if' clause". But yeah, "as long as" is right here.
Also, I do like "ion" for the counter name.
Yes it should. Thank you... I have a tendency to forget that "if" is a trigger.
I like that idea. It would come out nicely in art, like the Darksteel orbits (e.g. Darksteel Plate).
About the ability: shouldn't it be "As long as ~ has a counter on it, ..." so that it's a continuous ability rather than a triggered ability? It would make more sense, since it grants a continuous ability.
That may be too good, but I'll let it sit for now. G/W is supposed to have the strong creatures anyway.
The noticeable change here is that I switched from gem counters to ion counters. I figured, the fantasy world was already familiar with "ion stones" being little rocks that float around someone's head and gave them abilities, so it wouldn't seem weird. Meanwhile, having ionic charges of colored mana that twist around a creature's body gives a nice visual, and seems like a natural way to show creatures sharing their 'charges'.
Yeah, originally these were equip Leonin Scimitar for
with a bonus for two. Now their nerfed, partially for logic, and partially for brevity, and I'm annoyed. I want these things to stay relevant, but not be too good. They are common equipment after all, and not very exciting unless someone passes them to you in a draft, meaning they should be 7-9 pick.
But an equipment that does nothing when you use it is bad. I need to find a simple execution that screams "Headsets!". Still thinking.
I think I might get away with "5 bad things are happening" in the expansion. Wizards normally focuses on 'the event', and, when the last set comes out 'the event is solved'. I think I like this set to feel a bit more like Lost in Space or Firefly. Nothing is ever solved, and there's always another problem. In this model, the threat of Phyrexian invasion is an ongoing plot hook, but not the plot. I certainly don't plan on doing another large scale invasion... that would be snooze-ville.
Not perfect flavor text but I'll take it for now. In Stir the Nest I mentioned that I need more strange, tribal technology level creatures. Nameless Race are pulled a bit from a very curious old The Dark creature, and visually, I imagine them to look like the artwork in Nameless Inversion. They're the most technologically advanced of the races, with huts, agriculture and altars, but their entire society is built off of sacrificing. And the Mirrans have no means to communicate with them (in fact, the Mirrans don't even know how the Nameless Ones communicate among themselves).
I agree that the first cycle of spellbombs were better designed than the second.
What could possibly go wrong? :P Although actually, it seems you'll have to try quite hard to avoid the later sets just doing New Phyrexia again :)
So this does nothing unless you have two of them? If that's intentional, the power level needs pumping a lot. I was surprised a bit by the idea of common legends too, but I can see it can be flavourful. Just remember that mechanically, it does nothing except make it blow up sometimes.
Thrull? Though they're a classic slave race. Homarids were just silly, should have just been "Crab"
Nantuko and Viashino. Can anyone else think of a tribe-like and alien creature type? And how much do people really hate Homarids?
