The rules really need to support "artifactwalk" as a thing.
Second stab at the difficult to pin down "can only be found in
" mechanic. This time, I decided to invoke Reset. I figured blue was the only color that would allow an across the board reset like this. So... is a 1/1 for
that untaps all your permanents when you deal combat damage broken?
Switched for reasons above. I'm not really concerned about power level, but that 'isn't really white' and 'looks more like Giant Crab' kind of get to me.
Now, even if people are uncomfortable with seeing a shroud creature this tough in common, they can perceive it as a reward for playing White-Blue.
Really? I find this conversation funny. I assumed people would balk at this card for 'just' being a 3/5 shroud for 6 (or not-white. Though the idea seems white enough for me to bleed it). I think the trepidation comes from the fact that we haven't seen a 'big' creature with shroud in blue. But this looks considerably worse than Primal Huntbeast to me (or Rubbleback Rhino for that matter).
I was tossing the idea of making this card a

creature, but I didn't want to nerf it too much and/or make it that difficult to not play allied colors in draft. Do you guys think it really needs it, though?
@Vitenka: I'd rather not increase the activation. I want the card to look as much like a Giant Crab as I can get away with. That said... I could make the activation cost
instead of hybrid... I don't know if I like that...
Mm. Glimmering Angel at least asked for two different colours. Other creatures with activated-shroud at a single mana have been uncommon or higher, as far as I recall.
Probably reasonable to spell it out on a common anyway.
Probably not reasonable to have on a common creature powerful enough that I want to kill it :) (Though I guess it's no less unreasonable than
:Regenerate ... which makes me think maybe the activation needs to go up by one?)
Oh, also, this card leads me to believe that Shroud is going the way of Islandhome. Obviously, I'm not going to use a keyword that few people will recognize...
Slot filling commons by combining traditional blue and white common animals. This time, I jammed Siege Mastodon and Giant Crab together.
Hmm... Well, at least you still have a reason you might want to pack Exotic Disease then. Okay, switching over. Geez... some of these Ionic spells are getting close to common backbreakers. I'm kind of glad this set isn't a real 5 color set... at least they're hard to set up in draft...
Lifedrain is my thought. EDIT: Hah, you thought of it too :P Exotic Disease was indeed pretty good, but this would be comparable, and actually needs you to spend the mana on it rather than just have the colour available.
All this said, I suppose the red card can deal damage to creatures, while the black card drains life to opponents. Or vice versa. Probably visa versa... If this card aimed for the opponent's head, it would be strictly better than Exotic Disease, and that was a pretty good card...
I'm trying to avoid card drawing or card advantage, since Salvage is causing so much incidental card drawing in this set. I'm also trying to avoid overlaps with red... so direct damage to the head is kind of a bad idea, too.
I'm not super-happy with this card, because you're right, this is close to the green one. At least it does something we rarely see on a Magic card, though, so I do like that (Enrage used to be black from cards like Howl from Beyond. Increasing power is pretty red now... that's one of the reasons why this is a sorcery. That space isn't really carved out). I'd be happy to switch it with another more black ability... but I don't know what I can use. I have plenty enough regeneration in set, I couldn't imagine a way to make this be discard and be fair for a common, I've got my prerequisite creature kill cards already, and, as Alex and I discused on Ionic Thrust, you don't want the red card and black card of a cycle to kill a creature in mildly different ways. I want to avoid any more evasion in the set for now... you can see how this card got boxed in. Any other ideas?
Also, this is too similar to Ionic Surge to me.
Why not "Draw a card and lose 1 life for each color," or "Target player loses 1 life and you gain 1 life for each color," or "For each color spent to cast ~, put a card from your graveyard on top of your library?"
EDIT: Crap, that last one is green.
Why is this not red?
Hole-filling creatures, I discovered that white has too many non-creature spells that cost 2 and only one creature that costs CD. That's pretty bad for the mana-curve, so I decided to make an easy to play 2 cost creature. It also needed to have no evasion, since this set, especially Beeble W/U is chock full of evasion. It also needed to not be a Beeble. We have plenty of the monster races.
So I decided to make some creatures based on the idea of mashing up two identifiable animal cards into a hybrid creature. This guy is Savannah Lion combined with Giant Tortoise. Works for me. The alternative? Prowl Cat: A 2/1 Owl-Cat that comes into play and lets you rearrange the top 4 cards of your library. It wasn't very white, though, which is a pretty big shame. I thought Prowl Cat was kinda funny.
Reevaluating the skeleton, White had 4 non-creature spells that cost 2 and one creature that cost CD. That's a trap I'm going to have to fix... we need at least one easy to cast 2 cost creature, and we need one less non-creature spell. This card seemed like the likely candidate, so I jumped it up to 3... though, I don't like how it's worse than Cease-Fire now... even if it does pick up equipment in the process...
I tried shutting off creature and equipment activations in the process, but that got too clunky with all three lines of text. Maybe I'll come up with something later.
