Hole-filling creatures, I discovered that white has too many non-creature spells that cost 2 and only one creature that costs CD. That's pretty bad for the mana-curve, so I decided to make an easy to play 2 cost creature. It also needed to have no evasion, since this set, especially Beeble W/U is chock full of evasion. It also needed to not be a Beeble. We have plenty of the monster races.
So I decided to make some creatures based on the idea of mashing up two identifiable animal cards into a hybrid creature. This guy is Savannah Lion combined with Giant Tortoise. Works for me. The alternative? Prowl Cat: A 2/1 Owl-Cat that comes into play and lets you rearrange the top 4 cards of your library. It wasn't very white, though, which is a pretty big shame. I thought Prowl Cat was kinda funny.
Rootwater Snapping Cat is out. As much as I liked it, I figured I can only support one mashed up creature in common.
Instead, I'm throwing in a cycle of replicas, to help ease color constraints in set. It also does a decent job filling in holes in the Mirran flavor without introducing extra characters. The Mirrans made these creatures as a tribute to their original ecology after they arrived.
Nice. Nice callbacks to Mirrodin, the flavour works (assuming you have some flavour text explaining it), and looks like they should do precisely what you say in Limited.
