I like all of those ideas. This set is still a rough draft for all my DFC concepts. I'm working on building a world as well, which you can read about in the Style Guide. The individual cards do far, while able to exist within the structure I'm setting up, don't yet lead to a cohesive environment that can be discovered solely through the cards.
Ancient artifact that can't be unlocked without the proper 'key'?
An ancient curse that's affected a person's bloodline, but lays dormant generation after generation?
Dormant Volcano
Mostly, this depends on the flavor of the set... I haven't caught onto if there is a specific flavor thread, yet. If no, then I suppose the 'transformed' is not as important as the 'key'. If you have an interesting item that transforms a subset of things, it doesn't take much to imagine a card that can only be transformed by it.
Or you could [[[B.F.M. (Big Furry Monster)]]] it, and have both cards do nothing special without each other, and transform each other. Actually, you may want to do that too.
I was. I just haven't gotten around to it yet. Suggestions on a flavor reason?
Any plans on adding a card to the file that has a transformed side, but no obvious way to transform it on the card? Like if a werewolf was printed in Innistrad, but the only way to switch it was with things like Moonmist? I'd assume you'd have to keep that card as simple as possible, so that what is missing becomes noticeable...
made into a Mercenary
I think the "nerf it" ability should have a sorcery-speed restriction (as in, "but only any time he or she could cast a sorcery"). Sounds like perhaps a Mercenary which the opponent can buy off, so red or black. Also, as phrased there it's basically a Lava Spike. The trick will be making it so that sometimes the opponent will want to activate the nerf-it ability, but sometimes they'll want to try to cope without it. Maybe add "discard a card" to the activation cost?
The original quote:
> "And then after it falls on your opponent, this creature turns into a Pile-of-Rubble token creature. Uh, somehow." (My templating skills rule.)
"It's a crumbling golem that instead of attacking falls over, crushing something and then becomes a pile of rocks token. Somehow."
I don't know what color this should be or what flavor it evokes. I just like the ability. Ideas?
That gives me an idea. ^evil laugh^
I made it like Bridge from Below on purpose, but you're right: it would be a lot cleaner.
I note that this would be rather cleaner - or at least, a lot more intuitive - if it worked the way Rallying Cry worked. Having this do its thing from the graveyard is very odd, rather reminiscent of Bridge from Below; it also makes it extremely hard for most decks to deal with (if they want to). Also, is it intended to work if it's milled or discarded, or just as part of its resolution? The wording isn't quite clear.
I like the idea of holding a Terramorphic Expanse untapped as a combat trick or to save this guy from removal.
Oh. Hmm. That's suddenly become rather less good. Players don't like it when the opponent has more control over their cards than they do.
That said, if your entire set is transform cards, I guess it's okay for one or two of them to be transformations which the opponent gets to do.
Maybe "an effect an opponent controls"?
Should I change the transform trigger? I liked how it got angry when you tried to get rid of it, but if something else played better, I'll change it.
It does seem kind of odd that this card gets better when you play a Kor Skyfisher, eh?
Yikes. Good card for the set.
Also, that's a very unusual replacement ability. Not many enchantments can live through Akroma's Vengeance, and I believe none through Worldpurge, Lich's Mirror or Sway of the Stars apart from this one.
Nice! Sometimes you'll want it to transform, sometimes you won't.
I was using the wording from Devoted Caretaker. Petrified Wood-Kin agrees with you, though.
But if I target it with a 'Instant Ability' we're cool.
