Yay. The New Phyrexia Splicers were fun for being in different colours, even though they majored in green and white. In fact, it'd be nicer if they were in all five colours, so how do you feel about arranging for at least one Kobold in all five colours?
(BTW, "kobolds" in rules text should be capitalised, as on Winged Sliver or Master Splicer.)
As Kobolds continues to get better, I'm finding I have to bring this creature under control by giving it a casting cost. I don't want all the Kobold decks to feel the same, and free Levitation for any color would end up doing that in the end. Besides, I like the idea of Kobolds sneaking into any color. A White and a blue Kobold that help create different Kobold archetypes is starting to look good.
Fair enough. I slipped in the line "and becomes a black Specter" in there. I'd change the name, but I kind of like it, and there isn't enough room for flavor text. I'm pretty sure whatever the card art is would help a great deal.
While it is somewhat outside what black normally does, if you make the flavour "This is a Specter UEOT!" clearly enough, I think gaining flying is allowable.
As far as answers to the question "What if I gave Raging Goblin entwine?" go, I guess this is a reasonable one :)
True. I am no fan of using "his or her" when "their" does the trick. Why? Seems sexist to me. I don't like how 'his' comes before 'her'... and the fact that you're forced to mention gender at all... I'm perfectly aware that 'their' is improper grammar if there is only one person, but I'd rather speak with mild improper grammar that use a mildly sexist expression.
That's a personal preference, though, not proper templating, so I'm switching over.
I'll save Alex the hassle. Searched Gatherer for "gains flying" and black creatures. Only Krovikan Elementalist came up positive, and he still requires blue mana to activate.
"Whenever you cast an instant or a sorcery spell, you may pay and reveal Azerin, Sanity's End from your hand. If you do, target player exiles the top two cards of his or her library.
When you cast Azerin, target player exiles the top twenty cards of his or her library.
When Azerin is put into your graveyard from anywhere, exile your library, then shuffle your graveyard into your library."
Just sayin'.
I selected Hydrolatice and Random Generator gave me Silent Specter. Okay, okay. I know black doesn't grant flying that often (if at all), but it doesn't sound that weird does it? I could have easily given this intimidate, but I've had enough of giving black creatures swampwalk or intimidate. Besides, Silent Specter already has flying, and that's what specters do...
I selected Hydrolatice and Random Generator gave me Sword Dancer. The card is very close to being a common. I kept shaving the casting and entwine cost to make it look like an uncommon until it became and . That's a playable card, but I don't like the fact that it's automatically better than every blue card out there that lowers toughness. It still is... but at least it doesn't make blue look like a punk.
I selected Hydrolatice and Random Generator gave me Raging Goblin. Granted, I'm leaning very far in my own project... the only thing I'm taking from Hydrolatice on this cycle is entwine and uncommon... but that was kind of the plan from the start. I really like this card, and find it funny that it was started by the question "What if I gave Raging Goblin entwine?"
Like I said: I like entwine and I like this card. Guess it's time to make a cycle out of it.
