I wasn't sure what to snap this onto. I wanted something that naturally felt small and hidden, which would point to fairies, but they already have flying, so part of the effect would be lost on them. Heh. Maybe I should just make this Equip to a Spirit. Let's do that for now.
"Equip to a Homunculus"? Um...? How many of those are there printed: about 4? There are lots of Knights and Dragons. Could this at least be equip to a Vedalken or a Bird or something?
Black or green both deal with card-draw and lifegain, so I think it's okay in either of those. It's a fun little Johnny puzzle. Only thing is that if I solve the puzzle, giving my opponent some life somehow, then my reward is an ability which makes the +2/+2 useless. Unless this is on a vigilant cat like Mirri, Cat Warrior, I suppose.
But then once I start attacking with it, I take away the condition... hmm...
I guess if I look at it as a multiplayer card, it's fine.
I guess Sword of Kaldra also gave +5/+5 and a bonus for /. Though that was Legendary.
Nice trigger! You don't need the "for each card returned in this way" clause - the phrasing of the trigger condition means it'll work that way anyway.
But it's not when the armour is cut up - you've still got the armour. It's the creature inside the armour that gets cut up and made into smaller suits. Which is fine when you equip a dragon, but less fine if you equip something small. It'd be better if it was when the equipment was destroyed, I think.
I really like the "Equip to a dragon" line. I'm surprised it's so expensive otherwise though; but it is a big boost.
I selected Thermal Lance and Random Generator gave me Bog Imp. I left this one for last, in case I had to switch it into another color. But, yeah, blue gets a lot of flying creatures. We'll give it to blue and figure out what's going on later.
It is a hard thing to do, to bring an underpowered vanilla-ish creature and change it into a rare artifact that has certain pre-requisites that need to be filled. I tried to capture a bit of the Bog Imp flavor text on this one. It's not a very dangerous creature... but don't turn your back on it. I wish I could have added a bit more of Boo Buddy from the Mario Brothers franchise, but adding "and it slowly creeps up behind you" wasn't going to work.
I selected Thermal Lance and Random Generator gave me Temporary Truce. Tricky. Originally, I had something along the lines of "Whenever an opponent gains 2 or more life, draw a card"... but then I realized that the equipment didn't need to be equipped for the ability to work... and it seemed silly to force an artifact to be equipped to get an effect to happen.
Which doesn't go a long way to defend this card, I realize. I like the idea going into this card, and I think it all works well, it just isn't green, I suppose. It's not very blue, either. It stretches white and black's color wheel as well, and red is right out.
It's still a colorless artifact that only nods at green, but that still makes it feel green... I don't know. Opinions?
I selected Thermal Lance and Random Generator selected Jugan, the Rising Star. I figured we can let one of these cards go nuts. I'm not sure if this really captures the flavor of "Dragon-ness", or if the idea that armor designed for a dragon could easily be reforged into armor for 5 humans comes across. Maybe something in the artwork?
I chose Thermal Lance, and Random Generator gave me Cruel Revival. It would have been hard to move the revival out of black, so I made this one first.
My first instinct was to turn this into a commando-style card with return a creature from your graveyard to your hand as the end goal. But that kind of bored me... It's been done too many times for it to be an exciting rare. Plus, Thermal Lance set a standard for upgrading the creature when a condition is met, so I wanted to go with something more like that. Plus, plus, What the heck is Zombie Equipment anyway? Why would zombies be raising the dead? It seemed like zombies would like it when other creatures joined them from the graveyard, so I gave them that instead.
V: Note that the lifegain is because this is part of a cycle, inspired by Bone Nest Drake.
Thank you for the editing touches. I should know better sometimes, but in the rush to get everything down... you get the idea. Yes, may is good, and let's remove the blocking (sic) player part... it's just more words that we don't need.
Odd that it's not "You may gain 1 life" Odd that it's lifegain in red. Quite like the "A wave of flame precedes my forces" flavour, though.
