Random Generator gave me Emrakul, the Aeons Torn and Dampen Thought. Pfew... just got done Life // Death and Psychic Battle. Now I can move on to something simple... oh, come on!

Emrakul has me stuck. I want to warp what he looks like, but he's so unique that messing with the numbers would make a lot of people turn their head sideways and ask "Why'd you do that?" So, Flying and Protection from colored spells needs to stay where it was. I came close to giving him Haste, to replecate the going again thingy... but this dude is a monster of a reanimation target as it stands... it doesn't need to auto-win.

I do like the reveal warning that Emrakul is giving off in this version. Feel free to quote Infernal Spawn of Evil when you activate his ability.

Oh, duh. Emrakul can never be Zombifyed. That's okay. The guys a powerhouse as it is.

Added to the live set because I like where this is going, and I can't see me making something more absurd than this soon. I also changed a couple of things:

  • Removed Flying and Protection from Colored Spells. My priorities have changed a touch since I started this project. Those 5 words don't really help the overall card, and this thing is chunky to begin with. Anyhow, I'd be surpised if people didn't see this casting cost/p/t and didn't say "Oh. Must be Emarakul."
  • Changed the name, for roughly the same reason. No longer "An Emerakul".
  • Changed the Antie-Zombify clause to something spicier. In some match ups, it's a Phage, the Untouchable clause. In other match ups, that's going to be one hell of a benefit. 3 counterspells in the graveyard, a discard outlet, and I'm in the lead? Yes, please.
  • I love that anti-reanimation clause. That's hilarious.

I fear "reveal" needs "from your hand", which is a pity because the words on this are already a bit tight.

Unfortunately, it would. With proper templating this gets a bit on the long side.

When I first saw the name, it reminded me of the demon/spirits from Kamigawa. Looked it up: Kyoki, Sanity's Eclipse.

Added "from your hand". Thank you. I'm just going to have to live with how many words are on this card. at a cc of {15}, I'd think most players expect this card to be a little berserk.

"Whenever you cast an instant or a sorcery spell, you may pay {2} and reveal Azerin, Sanity's End from your hand. If you do, target player exiles the top two cards of his or her library.

When you cast Azerin, target player exiles the top twenty cards of his or her library.

When Azerin is put into your graveyard from anywhere, exile your library, then shuffle your graveyard into your library."

    Just sayin'.

True. I am no fan of using "his or her" when "their" does the trick. Why? Seems sexist to me. I don't like how 'his' comes before 'her'... and the fact that you're forced to mention gender at all... I'm perfectly aware that 'their' is improper grammar if there is only one person, but I'd rather speak with mild improper grammar that use a mildly sexist expression.

That's a personal preference, though, not proper templating, so I'm switching over.

Emrakul, the Aeons Torn can very much be reanimated with Makeshift Mannequin or Loyal Retainers.

    Some rules problem:

The first ability can't be triggered from your hand. It needs to be something like: "As an additional cost to cast an instant or sorcery spell, you may pay {2} and reveal Azerin, Sanity's End from your hand." What happens next would be a bit strange. Maybe it could mill as the spell resolves, but you still won't be able to choose a target player. Tons of problems when making triggers from hidden zones I guess. :P

I think I originally had something closer to Splices wording, then fiddled with the card and messed it up. I changed it to "As you cast" instead of "when" because you need to do it then. I didn't, unlike splice, add the effect to the card's text. The game can probably handle this unique effect on a mythic. I'm not sure if it happens at mana speed, or if it hits the stack, but I don't think it breaks the game either way. Since targeting can't happen at this point, I changed target to 'each', which is an unfortunate, temporary solution.

This card had one ability too many, so I removed the "If this goes to your graveyard, exile your library, then put your graveyard in your library ability." It was cute, but I don't think it's strictly neccessary. We can already Zombify for incredibly huge creatures. Krosan Cloudscraper didn't cause any problems, at least.

Convinced myself otherwise. It's just too big to get on the battlefield with so few hoops. instead, changed 'instant or sorcery' to 'spell, increased the cost and number of cards from 2 to 3 to make up for how much easier that is to do, and changed the final ability to be a shorter negative graveyard sweep, that's at least appropriate to the feel of the card.
