Needed one more 'instants matters' card, so I chose "blue instants matters card" and random generator gave me Weaver of Lies.
That card to your left isn't perfect, I know. I kind of wanted the second line of text to say "...whenever you cast an Instant spell, copy ~...". Getting beyond whether you can copy objects that aren't around to see themselves getting copied, I had some problems with the fact that the ability would become multiplicative. Cast LttB once, then Opt, then Opt, then Opt, and you'd return eight creatures to get eight spirits. Not the intention...
Oh, also on the subject of Weaver of Lies: One of the comments is "Why would you ever hard cast this? Ever?" He's got a point. It isn't cheaper, and requires one more blue mana. Funny thing, though, is that Æther Charge, Totem Speaker and Wirewood Savage are all in the same block.
Even better: Do you want to attack with your Bonebreaker Giant? I may be tapped out, but are you sure I don't have a Mutagenic Growth in my hand?
Nah... my mistake for not being more clear. It doesn't work well with Aspect of Wings because it's combining power-toughness switching with 'until end of turn' stat boosts.
I agree this card works much better on defense. It's a fine early game rattlesnake. Do you want to attack with your Grizzly Bears? Are you sure I don't have an Opt in my hand?
Hmm... it doesn't play well with Aspect of Wings on offence. But the two together let you block-and-kill a 5/3 if that's what you want to do.
Reinforcing themes. Blue doesn't really have one. I wanted to up the amount of spirits in blue, because there's an equipment and an uncommon creature that likes spirits... but I don't feel a need to have a large 'Spirits matters' theme. Just making sure those two cards have support.
There is, however, Aspect of Wings in uncommon, which wants you to play more instants. Fair enough. "I like instants" is a common enough blue theme.
So I chose "Instants matters, blue card" and the random generator gave me Skyshroud Elite. That's rather fortuitous. I could use another 1cc blue creature, and the ability is easy to translate to 'instants matter'. I'll probably need to toss one more common with that theme to lock it solid, but this is a good start. (Annoying aside: This card doesn't paly well with Aspect of Wings. I'm just going to shrug my shoulders. Still, that's annoying.)
Yeah, this is a very nice design.
I like this one. Nice and simple. White's had artifact recursion since antiquities, and it needs a bit of spit and polish. A seemingly symmetrical (but not really, because hey, I've got artifacts and you don't) card like this is just perfect.
I'm looking to further establish some of the themes in the set. White has a "White Machine" theme running through it, so I added "Artifacts Matter, in white" and spun the random generator, which gave me Scrounge, oddly.
But, you know, I really like this card. It does something white, then it does something white (returns artifacts from graveyard to play, then asks if the opponent wants to do it as well, just to be fair). Not bad for a color-shifted Exhume. What's better is that white is rarely invested in destroying artifacts. It's more likely to Oblivion Ring them nowadays, and could always exile them, like in Altar's Light. So, unlike Exhume, you're more likely to just get a cheap Argivian Restoration out of the deal.
Thank you.
But you do have a typo in the name.
Well, Past in Flames makes it in colour for instants/sorceries for red, and Faith's Reward/Second Sunrise sortof makes it in colour for permanents in white (also Sun Titan etc). So between the two, yeah, this works. Kinda awesomely.
Simplified those stupid battlestones, since they were clearly too bulky. I tacked the first ability onto the last ability, except for Niven's Battlestone which had two weird, large, swingy abilities that didn't really go together. Sent Niven's to the Workshop, took Stormscape Battlestone and random generator gave me Rise from the Grave and Engulfing Flames. Evidently RftG when added to Engulfing Flames becomes a one shot Yawgmoth's Will. Who would have known? I'd toss dealing one damage in the mix, but I'm done with these cards being confusing. That seems good enough, and crosses the boundary between the two cards well.
