I know I suggested it as is, but perhaps it could cost 1UU (or 2UU) and cost less if the player controls an island, and it could also flood, so that it preps future castings.
I imagine this effect being on a cantrip, probably without the tapping.
We probably don't want the "tap" thing, but I thought I'd try the simplest variant. This spell probably wants to do something else instead/as well.
This may be too conditional, I'm not sure, but it's definitely wanted in this set. We may well tweak the number of flooding cards. This may either becomes 2UU, "costs 2 less if...", or come down to cost 1U, since it's conditional, I don't know.
This may even be too good in this set, but whoever suggested it was right, it should be in here :)
A simpler version of Waterleech (which I like a lot) for common.
I'm not sure, there should probably be at least one common which grants and benefits from flood?
Should there be another minor blue theme as well? there's probably still room for it.
A generic mid-range "flyer". I'm not sure; I feel at least one "flyer" should be U instead of UU, but also, islandwalk may be stronger than flying in a flood deck, so is 3U for 3/2 too good?
We could alternatively play with variants, eg. "If defending player controls a flooded land, ~ can be blocked only by blue creatures or creatures with flying" would be a lot, lot weaker but still have the flavour.
2/2 for two is stronger than usual for islandwalk, and UU is more color intensive than usual for common, but I think in the set without flying and with a heavy monocolor and flood theme, it's probably right.
I went ahead and generated a skeleton, though I expect it to change a lot. (I think it would be fine to add existing suggested cards that are filling a specific splot to the skeleton (eg. "a common red all-tapped card") but not needed to add suggestions that aren't filling a specific color/rarity role (though we can if we like))
I like the idea of casting a spell, though not having different triggers. Having the same trigger is what ties an ability word together. If I remember right, one of the GDS2 entrants was criticized for having different ability word triggers.
I like the name and concept of "enlighten", as a sort of "I'm more sophisticated than you" mechanic. However, I don't know if it's a good idea to tie it to card drawing; I can see the fun side, but I'm concerned that it's most useful in decks already packed with card draw and cantrips, typically blue control decks, that may just get even more consistent and uninteresting.
Other possibilities would be to tie the effects to casting a spell: that's still pretty good (the exact mirror of landfall) but doesn't encourage card draw more than other cantrops.
Or to have the triggers be different, but feel the same: give people a dream of chaining together a "whenever you do X, do Y", "whenever you do Y, do Z", etc, etc.
The instant could still work, also. We'll keep it open ended and see if a hole needs filling.
I never did state that I like this card. I especially like the flavor of the Aerans/Aer/Aerites stealing mana.
Maybe we could have a mythic creature that actually takes lands.
See Aven Seer And Aeran Priest for my ability word proposition.
Anyway, the point of this is to ask if the proposed 2 CMC cycles at common could having flying and some sort of Enlighten, if we're going with Enlighten.
Is this combination too good for a 2 CMC common?
