Nice. A fun and very red exploration of the new form of red card advantage pioneered by Chandra, Pyromaster.
Just Commander? I was worried about power level overall.
But Green gets good creatures!
You're probably right. This needs to either cost more or be wimpier.
Hee. Very nice indeed. Compulsion on a land that fits in all decks.
Probably becomes an instant staple in close to every Commander deck.
Yowch. It works as whichever you need out of a really strong wall and a really strong trampler. Might need to be a bit pricier for that flexibility. Compare Wall of Torches (can't attack) or Garruk's Companion (can't regenerate).
Amusingly, amuseum created Lock // Load just 4 months ago.
Also, I thought there was a Bramblecrush variant in RoE that did this. There obviously wasn't, but you can see why they might print one. (And also why they didn't: the whole point in the removal in RoE was that most of it didn't work on Eldrazi.)
I think the pie problems would be for colourless creatures rather than colourless enchantments or planeswalkers. Even so, I think this is fine.
The set that'd want it rather than Demolish would be quite unusual though. There'd want to be quite a few colourless creatures that were small (rather than the gigantic Eldrazi).
Guuhh. That is a weird card. Needs the "(
: Add
to your mana pool.)" reminder text.
So it encourages you to untap it, either using another one of it or something else, by handing out free Nature's Spirals if you do.
Wacky. Johnny would certainly enjoy trying to break it though. Seems like it'd lend itself to some evil (fragile multi-part) locks.
Cards like this make we want to do really stupid things. Like play 4x Ghostly Flame...
Edit: What? Ghostly Flame just makes the damage colorless, not the card? Weird...
Hm. Good point this could be green. I think Vorthos says it's green -- green's always had a much bigger "bring in line with nature" urge. But Melvin says it's red -- green can destroy artefacts and lands, but there's no particular reason for that rather than any other combination of non-creature permanents.
I don't think it's unbalancing because, as you say, it will affect almost no cards :) But think wizards avoid breaking the pie whether it's for balance reasons or not -- Maro hated Hornet Sting even though it was weak.
Planeswalkers too, I guess, but red's always been allowed to shoot those in the face.
I'm kinda surprised we didn't see something like this in the set after Eldrazi, actually. Would have been a good way to bring them back under control.
I don't think this is really going to break the pie that often. I mean, how many colorless enchantments are there? That's really the only thing red shouldn't he allowed to destroy.
I've seen people give green this ability, for similar reasons. It seems more appropos there, imho, off the premise that green 'likes color'. But red seems to work, too. I suppose you could always paint it as "Red being insulted by a lack of passion".
Also, stop trying to make Moonlace relevant. :)
Lol. Yeah, that's perfect. I don't THINK it would be printed for pie reasons, but I'm not sure.
Plus, if the sift fails; at least you KNOW you were gonna be completely boned - but now you're not because you sifted past it.
After looking at your comparisons, the effect probably needs to cost
, since 2cmc ramp is no longer available to colors other than green. Of course, there's always the chance that this will fizzle, so I feel like
should be okay.
I've tried to make the others, like Nylea's Chant, so that they would work well on an Overloaded spell. This doesn't do much with overload, though.
Nice name :)
The effect is very interesting. It's something like a colourless Rampant Growth, which is pretty strong - except it's not very likely to fix your colours. Or it's like an unpredictable one of Marble Diamond, Sky Diamond etc :)
