RAWR! I always liked Axebane Stag even if it isn't super playable.
I think Renown is split into two camps - rebels and renegades (BR) and outlaws in the outlands (GR).
I guess my brain was going more along the lines of Jack from Mass Effect 2. Not really good or bad. Heck, softies when it really comes to it. But after a rough life in the slums and wastes, if you are going to get in my way (possibly reconnaissance "gatherers" for one side, then the other) well up yours!
So, pretty close Inanimate's idea, but not quite.
I also sort of have this vision that most of the BR renown guys come from some sort of barren wastes outside of city boarders. There is a lot of art online for that if that is ever a creative restraint.
Early on, most of the cards we had on file were either Justice or very aggressive. This card was to work against the ground based aggro decks of Revolution and Renown.
Does is at least feel like sideboard tech? It really was never meant to be that great of a card. It was designed to keep armies of thopters at bay, particularly in colors that are usually pretty light on anti-flier tech.
If it doesn't fill that role, then it needs changed.
What is this card achieving? I love the flavor text but it coul probably just go on a vanilla artifact creature.
I tried to fit it in but, as I mentioned in my article, a lot of the flying bodies were too similar. I decided to keep the revolution flier at 3CMC since Revolution's curve wanted to be manageable, and fiddled with the blue canister creature, as the green canister creature - Stilt Strider - already kind of embodied what this card was going for. (Defensive anti-flier with canister online)
Does it have to be extreme or amoral? It could simply be a pair of rebels willing to do whatever it takes to bring about revolution. They're so daring stealing resources that they risk the revolution's continual existence each time they do it.
It'd be nice to have a sympathetic BR character to oppose a villainous UW-based regime.
What could this be in the storyline? The more extreme and immoral side of the revolt?
Or just a character taking advantage of all the chaos?
moved from common to uncommon
upped the cost by R and increased the splash damage by 1.
reduced cost by 1
Why wasn't this used in the commons playtest? It played well in the consul duel deck.
This card was a good clean rare in the Consul Duel Deck
This card grew surprisingly large against me - it was a 4/5! - but it never felt like it was completely out of hand. It was valuable both early-game and late-game. This is definitely the best law we have right now, gameplay-wise.
The +1/+1 counters worked well as a Law punishment, too.
This is a pretty cool version of werewolves. I haven't played in Innistrad proper, but in Cube werewolves are a fantastic way to prevent 5color control players from just sleeping through any of their early turns while messing about with taplands and holding up mana for instants. I am all for more of that assertive-gameplay action
I really liked playing both with and against this card in playtesting.
This still feels so underwhelming in playtesting but is probably fair for whats its trying to do.
I wonder if maybe first strike would be better than vigilance due to the number of other 1 toughness fliers and then makes it a little more interesting as a ground blocker.
