Is the tapping triggered ability really necessary? The template to do this already exist on Leviathan and Grimgrin.

use Grimgrin's template

no this was supposed to only no untap the turn after. Changing to grimgrin wording makes it different

revert to trigger. not sure if we can make it any clearer that this only applies for one turn.

I believe this should be split in to two sentences a la Frost Breath Frost Titan and their ilk.

could this wording work?

Wouldn't "your first untap step" be the first untap step of the game? It may not be confusing, since I figure most people will get what you meant, but it is frustratingly vague.

"When Lurking Serpent enters the battlefield, tap it. It doesn't untap during your next untap step."

"enters tapped with a depletion counter on it" kind of like the way River Delta works?

@casualR it started as exactly that, but honestly it feels really weird to have it tap upon entering when pretty much every other similar card just enters the battlefield tapped instead.

Yes, but every other card doesn't stay tapped for two turns. It's either many or one (or with some other trigger). For what it is doing, it is the first that I can think of. Aside from River Delta and ilk.

CasualR's wording is the one I've been using in Dreamscape and has been fine in playtesting.

Revising wording since very few permanents ever untap during your "first" untap step.

...felt really bad. Usually you have something better to do, but if you need a big beater, well, you will likely wheel this...

Reuben played it against me once. I felt bad for him.

I think it is still an okay card, but it really feels bad

I think this being a {4}{u} would be fine as then using a canister to untap it is basically like paying {5}{u}.

Agreed, it would make it feel MUCH better to "have to play"

CARDNAME ETBs tapped.

When CARDNAME ETBs, it doesn't Untap during its controller's next Untap step.

Why split the trigger? Its wordier and harder to parse.

What are you talking about? It's not split.

Sorry I was refering to @continuumg's suggestion. I like the current wording.

Continuumg is followed the same line of thought I had earlier, which is that the current trigger is highly unusual (and one might argue hard to parse for that reason.)

Kicking this to uncommon. We need the slot for a larger blue flier.

This is adorable. Now that it's uncommon, can it gain trample or -1 cost or something?

For sure. I've been wondering the same. Let's try trample.
