See Challenge # 147.
Oops. Yeah, it should be that way round, especially if it's ambiguous.
Oh. Heh. The first time I read this, I thought the First Zombie got the bonus... even when in the graveyard. Oddly, that's not an irrelevant ability. Sure is hard to abuse, though. ;)
For the second ability, I'd just make a regular "intervening if" trigger. "Whenever a Zombie creature you control attacks, if ~ is in your graveyard or on the battlefield, that creature gets +1/+1 until end of turn."
First Zombie using "graveyard or battlefield" though I don't think the templating is quite right.
Adding "cards in his or her hand".
See Challenge # 147.
Another approach to "value after death" lords, while aiming it to give value through actual play rather than cheating into a graveyard.
Trifurcated Research using "three piles".
Adding "in a graveyard or on the battlefield".
Created for Challenge # 147. This was where the phrase "three piles" naturally led me...
Ghoststeel Paladin using "Would become"
That was hard, I may have been too stubborn again. I could think of almost no characteristics which become something, and need an effect to happen instead.
Adding "Or more"
See Challenge # 147.
I'm not sure if the rules work. The intent is to be resistant to wither, infect, and black -/- spells...
Oh yeah, it's definitely better than Sleep in multiplayer. I think that's fine though.
Fair enough. This should cost at least as much as Ugin's Insight.
So if my opponent controls a land and any other type of permanent, I cast three Preordains? And it only gets better from there on out? Seems better than Fact or Fiction. Definitely better than Foresee.
Other than being undercosted, though, I like it. It would certainly make an interesting sideboard choice against some decks.
I created Tamiyo's Dissertation, using "repeat this process."
Adding "would become."
See Challenge # 147.
I'm with Jack. I tend to think of "ETB tapped" as something developmental.
You opponent isn't going to like when you play this against their Blind Obedience.
Both of those match my intent. "Exile it," "exile cardname", it's all the same.
Hmm, they changed imprint in SOM which makes me think it doesn't work that way. You can't really reference embalm, since it's just an ability word. You might just want to refer to exiled cards, and make sure there aren't many other exile effects.
Norin, Jr another attempt for "Exile, then" which I really really like, but that doesn't quite work.
See Challenge # 147.
I really like the idea of a slightly-more-nuanced son-of-Norin.
How is Norin a warrior, not a rogue? And how is he not a coward? Cowards need more awesome creatures! :)
It would be specified in the comp rules, it means "exiled by an embalm ability". But I agree that's not perfect, is there a clearer way of specifying the same effects?
If embalm is the ability word, what does it mean for a creature to be embalmed?
Oh, I see. Thank you!
But it's funny you put it like that, because I always assumed that on those ETB cards, it was primarily driven by the ETB, and then the flavour was picked to fit...
Her with Many Servants using "Exile, then", which I like a lot, but it doesn't quite work.
See Challenge # 147.
I made this for "exile, then", and as a possible afterlife mechanic for an ancient Egyptian set. Unfortunately, the wording doesn't quite work.
I suppose it would. I just like the idea of the amount of chaos this card could add to the game. I thought about making the card Mythic, though, since you really don't want to see this event happen too often. And given the right game group, it wouldn't take that long to resolve. But given the wrong game group? Yeah... pretty painful.
For what it's worth, though, I'd be rather happy to see your version in print, Jack. I'd play it.
Another odd use for the card (Presuming you are player 1 and you are going in order): Tapping player 3's creatures so you can attack them this turn, but keeping player 2's creatures tapped so that player 3 will see them as an open target when they untap and attack.
