Very flavourful card! I can see the reason for the green hybrid because red does get to fight but green does it more. The self-damage and black mana seem a bit tacked on though, not so clearly a key part of the spell.
Oh, welcome to Multiverse, by the way!
Another try, Bloodscroll Deathmage is a Vampire who mainly embodies black through ambition, sacrifice-related abilities, and deathtouch, but also has some red characteristics in bloodthirst.
I created Dragonspeaker's Fury, a half-hybrid instant. Dragon's fury shown in red, savagery and green shown with fight, andsarkhan's madness, the black mana, shown with self-damage.
I like it!
And one more, a half-hybrid activated ability (is that ok?) Centaur Diviner
See Challenge # 118.
OK, here's another take on half-hybrid. Here the logic is, you shouldn't be able to splash this off just a single GU land, you should be in either G or U but it's ok to splash the other, so the card draw requires double coloured mana, but doesn't require UU.
This card is a bad example since it probably could be just 2U if it existed at all, and it probably wouldn't exist -- wizards seem to be cutting down on non-conditional card draw. But I wanted an example of an off-colour activated-ability.
Oh yes, I thought that was a brilliant idea. I agree it's pushing the pie a little in both U and B, but it feels very appropriate as a UB-feel U or B effect. I'd like to see that as another tweak on Mind Control.
Oh, thank you. I love how you found effects for the whole cycle!
I assumed I'd use a cycle of the clan "official" dragon characteristic (endurance, speed, cunning, savagery and ruthlessness) or maybe the body part (eye, scale, claw, wing, fang) for the names, although I hadn't decided if they were permanent or placeholder. But your names seem very much appropriate to the clan and more clearly different than the "official" ones, and I very much like you found effects matching name and clan.
Inspired by Jack's Endurance Charm, I created (my take on) the rest of the cycle: Subtlety Charm, Cruelty Charm, Initiative Charm, Ferocity Charm.
Created for Challenge # 118, following the pattern set by Jack's Endurance Charm. The rest of the cycle is Subtlety Charm, Cruelty Charm, and Initiative Charm.
My aims:
ability,
ability,
ability, fit Temur and "Ferocity", not duplicating effects any from Temur Charm.
Created for Challenge # 118, following the pattern set by Jack's Endurance Charm. The rest of the cycle is Subtlety Charm, Cruelty Charm, and Ferocity Charm.
My aims:
ability,
ability,
ability, fit Mardu and "Initiative", not duplicating any effects from Mardu Charm. That last was tricky here.
Created for Challenge # 118, following the pattern set by Jack's Endurance Charm. The rest of the cycle is Subtlety Charm, Initiative Charm, and Ferocity Charm.
My aims:
ability,
ability,
ability, fit Sultai and "Cruelty", not duplicating any effects from Sultai Charm.
hybrid effects are pretty scarce. This first line is a new effect, I think, but it feels plausible in both black and blue to me. Though it might be a bit undercosted at 3 mana, even in fiddly colours :-S
Created for Challenge # 118, following the pattern set by Jack's Endurance Charm. The rest of the cycle is Cruelty Charm, Initiative Charm, and Ferocity Charm.
My aims:
ability,
ability,
ability, fit Jeskai and "Subtlety", not duplicating any effects from Jeskai Charm.
I couldn't resist, so I created (my take on) the rest of the cycle: Subtlety Charm, Cruelty Charm, Initiative Charm, Ferocity Charm. I was aiming to keep in flavour both for the clan and for the particular word I'd chosen for the title, while avoiding duplicating any effects from the corresponding Khans of Tarkir charms. That was quite tricky.
Thank you! Yes, very like Riddler.
I think Anthem is definitely white -- every colour gets "pump something", but only white gets "pump everything". So I actually feel happier about this. Although I also like some of Alex's suggestions too.
Thank you! Yes, I'd be interested to see if it worked as a cycle.
Yes, I realised there wasn't exactly any precedent for that. I'm drawn too much to "clever" answers to hybrid effects :) My logic is, white gets to do direct damage to attacking/blocking creatures eg. Sandblast, and red can do that too; similarly white should get -X/-X to attacking/blocking. I think that would be plausible, although I don't think wizards would do it if there was an ability more traditionally in the W/B overlap they could use instead.
Change order of abilities to match order of mana costs.
The
choice is a bit weird in white, but overall, it's a very nice job. It sort of makes me want to make some charms from this cycle.
Ooh, I like it. Reminds me of Riddler of the Spheres, which I hasn't previously thought of as satisfying this challenge.
I think the anthem effect is great at the white ability, since most iconic anthems are white. It makes me think of Angel of Jubilation and Kongming, "Sleeping Dragon".
Haha, nice idea!
Could the abilities be listed in order of colour? "Flying, lifelink, first strike, vigilance"
This is pretty hard to cast outside of mono-white (or 5-colour). But that's fine.
I agree the anthem effect doesn't feel quite right for a monowhite ability, since every colour gets things like Paragon of Open Graves or Scion of Oona. Brainstorming monowhite abilities...
I'm going a bit wild on this challenge, I added Deus of Valor
See Challenge # 118.
I don't think this would be printed, but it's another possible approach for half-hybrid, aimed to be splashy rather than easy to cast early.
It's designed to be centred in white, and have four abilities from the overlap of white with each other colour, and one bigger ability which is white-only.
I'm not quite sure how hard it is to cast -- it's easier than WWWWW, since you can cast it in a deck with a splash, but it works better in a 1 or 1.5 colour deck, or a 5 colour deck, not a 2-colour deck. I'm not sure if that's a niche we want to make cards for, or how strong it should be...
I keep forgetting vigilance is in G as well as W, but it helps me here since G and W overlap a lot, but not always in keywords. I'm not sure about the "pump all" ability, but I wanted something short but memorable and clearly white, any other suggestions?
