At the moment it reminds me of Insist. Which was a 1-mana rare sorcery cantrip. OTOH, it was quite a long time ago. I think it might fall into the trap of designing cards which nobody will like.
Yeah, without the cantrip, I would say this is worse than Autumn's Veil. I would also say this shouldn't be rare.
I think you could leave it at . See for example Autumn's Veil. If you're still worried about power, you could drop the cantrip. Using it after someone tries to counter your spell would give you the same card advantage as a cantrip beforehand (i.e. no loss or gain).
It could be an Instant but I would have to bump up the CMC
Why is this a sorcery? It would be so much fun to respond to your opponent's counter with this. That way you also wouldn't waste it if your opponent doesn't have a counter.
You're not the first person to suggest that, though most people think it should be the Relentless Rats ability.
You know, I think there should be such a concept as "Basic Creature" Presumably it'd be a rules implementation of vanilla.
Hmm. Works out somewhat similar to Ursapine.
An update of Verdant Field
I like this concept quite a bit.
I tend to overcost stuff and then adjust down after feedback rather than cost it too low to start.
How's this cost?
I'm not sure that worse-than-Turn Aside plus worse-than-Rampant Growth (okay, apart from instant speed) needs to be 5 mana.
