Why is this a sorcery? It would be so much fun to respond to your opponent's counter with this. That way you also wouldn't waste it if your opponent doesn't have a counter.

It could be an Instant but I would have to bump up the CMC

I think you could leave it at {g}. See for example Autumn's Veil. If you're still worried about power, you could drop the cantrip. Using it after someone tries to counter your spell would give you the same card advantage as a cantrip beforehand (i.e. no loss or gain).

Yeah, without the cantrip, I would say this is worse than Autumn's Veil. I would also say this shouldn't be rare.

At the moment it reminds me of Insist. Which was a 1-mana rare sorcery cantrip. OTOH, it was quite a long time ago. I think it might fall into the trap of designing cards which nobody will like.
