Continuing the cycle of Fleetfoot Ninja.
I didn't want another common deathtouch combat trick as well as Geass to Murder. On the other hand, I don't want black to be full of regeneration, and Geass to Murder is regeneration too, plus the common
prepare spell might be regeneration...
On the other hand, given the series's NotQuiteDead tendencies, perhaps a lot of regeneration suits the flavour fairly well :) As long as the gameplay doesn't suffer from it.
As discussed on Fleetfoot Ninja.
The channel mode here is pretty bad. This would be a lot better as a first striker that channelled for first strike, but:
At first I had this as a 3/3 for
. Took it down to this size to try to make the channel a little better, because then you aren't giving up such a valuable resource by channelling this. Not sure if I've just made the card unplayable as a result.
I do like the flavour that the student doesn't necessarily have to actually be out on the battlefield, which would be a bit odd; it's just that one of the soldiers on the battlefield has met the student, been inspired by her, and can channel her compassion when needed.
A third option for white would be some kind of damage prevention.
Curiously, this is actually cheaper than any blue hexproof creature printed so far - except for Invisible Stalker which has been declared clearly overpowered. It's Aven Fleetwing without flying or Marchesa's Emissary without dethrone, but
cheaper than either. I guess the space of blue hexproof creatures hasn't been explored much - Whirlwind Adept and Benthic Giant are the only other commons there are, though Lone Revenant is more like an uncommon than a rare.
The Channel mode of this is just Mizzium Skin without a couple of options, so I think that's clearly fine.
As discussed on Fleetfoot Ninja.

As discussed over on Named Characters / Legendary Creatures, one approach to Lelouch would be to have multiple cards for him, perhaps in different colours. They wouldn't all be named "Lelouch" or be Legendary, but they could be named things like "Black Knight Strategist", "Battlefield Chessmaster", "Ruthless General", "Usurper to the Throne", and so on.
There's precedent for this in printed MtG. Master of Arms is a non-Legendary creature representing Gerrard of the Weatherlight (printed long before his actual card Gerrard Capashen). I think some of the nonlegendary Ravnica creature cards represent characters who have names in the story too.
Mechanics could include things like:
> Whenever you cast a spell from exile, draw a card. / Whenever you cast a spell from exile, you may copy that spell and choose new target for the copy.
To work with the Prepare mechanic, but phrased to be backwards compatible with rebound, suspend, maybe one or two other things.
>
: Look at the top 4[ish] cards of your library. You may cast an instant card from among them (paying its mana cost). Put the rest on the bottom of your library in any order.
He's the master of combat tricks.
> You may pay up to
less to activate abilities of cards in your hand.
> You may activate abilities of cards in your hand any time you could cast an instant.
He makes preparing plans look effortless. This also works with cycling (perhaps too well - it's a Fluctuator).
> Prevent all combat damage that would be dealt to attacking creatures you control.
Because it seems likely that the Black Knights mechanic will involve attacking with creatures, a Dolmen Gate / Iroas effect would be handy.
Yeah, I like that idea a lot.
Oho. Yes, good idea. I could also use that approach to have multiple cards communicating multiple facets of some of the more complex characters like Lelouch. Thanks for the suggestion!
You can make nonlegendary creature cards that obviously refer to a specific character from a story, but don't bear the character's name. For example, in a Game of Thrones set, a nonlegendary creature named "Master of Coin" with appropriate art would obviously refer to Littlefinger. Or in a Harry Potter set, "Ostracized Werewolf" represents Lupin. Basically, names that are generic enough to be nonlegendary, but still showcase a character.
See Prediction / planning mechanic.
Not happy with this. The condition can never be met if casting it as a sorcery, so you'd basically only ever prepare this.
Perhaps the thing to do is make this an expensive instant, like Abuna's Chant or Recuperate, that's cheaper if you prepare it.
Hmm, question. If I have instants with prepare, should I leave out the "as though it had flash" from their reminder text? On the one hand, it's irrelevant and potentially confusing on instants; on the other hand, the inconsistent reminder text might be confusing. If people encounter prepare on instants first and learn what it means there, they might be surprised when someone casts a sorcery-speed prepared card using the flash clause.
Keeping with the theme of all Prepare cards being conditional on something (as Vitenka thought over here), this is a Manamorphose you can set up one turn to use later. I like this idea because it allows you to seem tapped out while having two prepare cards face down, one of which is this and the other has a prepare cost that you can pay with this. Or you could just use the mana from this to cast a regular combat trick, I guess, as long as you have something else prepared.
em dash :)
