this was supposed to be a cycle, but eh xD
It doesn't get a +1/+1 counter when it ETB first, so at iteration 1 would be ping all 1, extort 1, gain x+y life
The thing is that this is meant to be a scalable Gray Merchant of Asphodel with a damnation tagged on, that's why I didn't want it to be blinkable
To be fair, it's only on opponent's upkeeps. So it's not like you untap with 2 4/2 tokens.
Also, the suggestion for text change noted. Thank you.
Cycling Guildgates are a great plan. I want lots of them.
I don't think they really need to be rare though. Tournament players don't really like ETBT lands too much, so they're not likely to be an expensive money-making set of rare lands. And a full 10-card rare land cycle in a single set is quite unusual - it would only happen if they have some key mechanic you want to showcase. Cycling Guildgates are nice, but not really splashy or high-power the way a rare land cycle should be.
Ha! Amusing. It will do nothing if the only creatures on the field are vanilla... well, I guess it'll untap your creatures that attacked. But it's a universal Ghostway for anything with ETB effects, such as your marquee Force cycle of mythics; also functions as Brand, Aether Snap, and sets off a ton of triggers.
Two notes: 1) I think this is a bit more expensive than it needs to be. 2) It's pretty weird for this to destroy when it doesn't actually leave the creatures destroyed. Could this just exile them all and then return them to the field? (I guess this would also normally be rare, but I guess I could see it as a draft-around-me uncommon if
have a theme of ETB effects, death triggers, or similar.)
Hee. I always thought Second Thoughts was a bit overcosted.
I'll note that this is much better than Azorius Charm, combining two of its effects (well, much better in one case) for the price of one.
Glorious Anthem effects were traditionally rare. There have been occasional dabbles in them at uncommon - Celestial Crusader, Kabira Vindicator, Orcish Oriflamme.
The same is true of tribal pump effects: usually rare (Lord of the Undead, Goblin King, etc) but occasionally pushed down to uncommon (Daru Warchief, Imperious Perfect, two or three others).
I have actually playtested a set that had a Glorious Anthem at common. (One draft of Vitenka's dwarf set, perhaps? Can't remember.) It was just as format-distorting as you might expect. These kind of global effects are really best kept at rare by default, occasionally pushing them down to uncommon if you've got reason.
Hmm. So it's Demigod of Revenge. Except as a repeatable effect, so channelling Myr Servitor... and getting bigger each time! One of these on the field is 5/5. Reasonable for a 4-mana mythic, I guess. Then, um, Pack Hunt makes the next three 6/6, 7/7 and 8/8... and then you sacrifice three of them to whatever (Spawning Pit, say) and they come back as 9/9, 10/10 and 11/11!
Okay, it's got the eye-popping "just think of what I could do!" that a mythic needs to appeal to Timmy or Johnny. But on its own, it's just a 5/5 haste... which is actually fine in Limited (certainly good, but not broken). I think this one is in a good spot. Nice card :)
As a permanent static effect affecting everything or nearly everything, this effect has always been rare: Night of Souls' Betrayal, Curse of Death's Hold, Ascendant Evincar. At uncommon you can get much more specific / focused versions like Engineered Plague, Smog Elemental, Illness in the Ranks or Dread of Night.
At common? This would be... format-warping to a great degree.
The token is rather confusing. I suggest a slight tweak:
> At the beginning of each opponent's upkeep, put a 1/1 white Shabti Soldier creature token with double strike onto the battlefield.
> Shabti you control get +1/+1 for each +1/+1 counter on ~.
By the way, even in a duel and even just the first time you cast this, this effectively makes a 4/2 token every round. That's better than Bringer of the Green Dawn or even Verdant Force.
I'm afraid Deadeye Navigator doesn't target, so this is eminently blinkable.
Why "X damage" rather than "1 damage"? Since this has deathtouch the difference is virtually meaningless. You gain a tiny bit more life, but that's going to be confusing anyway.
Lumithread Field says this can be a bit cheaper.
