The plane of Wehjed is a diverse place. But to the citizens of Al-Wehjed, whose civilization spanned for thousands of years. it consists of the two life-giving rivers and the rich, fertile lands surrounding them.

Through the Millenia, the people of Al-Wehjed realized the universe, or the Duat, does not only consist of themselves; in fact, the Duat consists of multiple shifting Realities, with their world of Wehjed being only one of them. Not only that, the people of Al-Wehjed realized that there are five omnipresent Forces that permeate the Duat:

Hwet, the force of Creation, Protection and Growth

Syah, the force of Preservation, Understanding and Eternity

Heka, the force of Perception, Deception and Illusion

Isfet, the force of Destruction, Decomposition and Change

Nehkeb, the force of Reincarnation, Regeneration and Renewal

Together, these five forces form the Cycles of the Wehjedian season: Sowing, Growing, Harvesting, Drought and Flooding. And just as it keeps them alive, the people of Al-Wehjed believed that these Cycles are what also keeps the Duat alive. This concept of the cycle of the five forces replacing one another, their separation of duties and their sanctity, is known as Maat, or the Cosmic Order. To breach Maat is to invite chaos and risk the collapse of all the Realities of Duat, including Wehjed.

These forces, however, are not by Al-Wehjedian opinion, omniscient. Most self-proclaimed Priests, Alchemists and Healers alike see the Forces as tools to be manipulated to their advantage. In fact, it's common practice to wear Magic amulets inscribed Force-invoking glyphs or mutter chants invoking protection or revenge. Magic is so wide-spread and so ingrained in Al-Wehjedian culture that even the poorest free-man in Al-Wehjed can have at least five Ushabti working as its servants.
