would like some help in making this mechanic work
The idea being that it gets bigger each time it comes back to life? Powerful.
Commander zone cards say you can just outright count the times it's come back; so you could do:
If ~ would die, instead exile it until the beginning of next upkeep. When ~ ETBs, it gains a +1/+1 counter for each time it has been exiled in this way.
Somewhat clunky; but the (technically slightly incorrect) representation of just leaving the counters on it while it's in exile, then putting an extra one on, works simply enough.
Also.. I'd run a french-vanilla 2/2 double striker for 3, any day of the week. Let alone an invulnerable one that grows bigger. Needs up-costing, or toning down slightly.
I've made another rendition of it.
lost the constant reanimation. This is to clarify that they're Forces of Nature to be manipulated by magicians, not actually sentient beings.
t3 - 1/1
t3 o - 2/2
t4 - 3/3
t4 o - dies
t5 - plays another one. 1/1
t5 o - 3/3
t6 - 5/5
...
This now comes with two kinds of counters; which isn't really needed. It's an interesting idea though. (And right now I don't think the first one grows - which is a MUCH better idea for the low casting cost)
Hmmm. you're right, because it's right now a static ability. I can make it a triggered ability though. Maybe make it a token generator instead?
made him a bit more powerful, but also less?
The token is rather confusing. I suggest a slight tweak:
> At the beginning of each opponent's upkeep, put a 1/1 white Shabti Soldier creature token with double strike onto the battlefield.
> Shabti you control get +1/+1 for each +1/+1 counter on ~.
By the way, even in a duel and even just the first time you cast this, this effectively makes a 4/2 token every round. That's better than Bringer of the Green Dawn or even Verdant Force.
To be fair, it's only on opponent's upkeeps. So it's not like you untap with 2 4/2 tokens.
Also, the suggestion for text change noted. Thank you.
Skullbriar tech: "Counters remain on ~ as it moves to any zone other than a player's hand or library.
When Conception Force enters the battlefield, put a +1/+1 counter on it, then put a 1/1 white Shabti Soldier token with double-strike onto the battlefield for each +1/+1 counters on it.
Sacrifice a Shabti: Return ~ from your graveyard to the battlefield."
Drop the double strike so it fits better. It's not needed given the nasty, nasty loop you can achieve with two of these now (which is a good excuse to potentially raise the cost a little)
So basically:
a) in this plane, he's the force of creation. He makes creatures, leads them blah blah blah
b) mechanically, I want W to be "upkeep matters".
c) I tried the Skullbriar tech, it was way too wordy to put everything I want in there.
d) All the Forces used to have self-reanimation via "Reincarnation Counters", but I found that to be way too confusing and hard to word. So I rather have say 4 of these guys in a deck, and they grow in "experience" as they die and is recast. Only the red one has self-reanimation now.
