these ideas are also good, might try Tahazzar's design. (P.S. Huge fan of your card dump :D) That idea is very plausible. It only allows for one card combos (of which there are - to my knowledge - barely any and/or none) Sounds like a just as crazy card, but less unfun and more believable.
i see your points, and they are good. First thing i will do is up to 3 mana, then change the life loss to be less combo or bust and more strategic. My original idea was "Well, you get your combo but you have 1 life so you die to anything, thats FAIR" Now i am realizing that being at 1 life isnt a big deal, when you literally just asembled a game winning combo. (Assuming you can cast those cards you just tutored up or not) I am going to do some nerfs, and get back to you all. Tell me what you think, and I will continue trying to get this into a state of decency... Three cards for one mana is just messed up in so many ways. Edit inbound.
the exile all other cards thing could just be simplified to YOU LOSE THE GAME. especially at eot (which is more reasonable timing) because you basically milled to death next instant?
It seems normal, all tutors do it if i remember right. No reason for it to be different
That would be superspike, but yea, more balanced for sure.
Would be pretty useless almost always thought, nearly never does 1 card win you the game (especially if it's the only one you own)
Could be a 1 mana tutor that lets you cast it for free, and at end step exile all other cards?
ie:
Search your library for a card, reveal it, and put it into your hand. You may cast that spell UEOT without paying it's mana cost. At the end of this turn, exile all other cards you own
I think tutoring even one card for a single is quite nuts however you put it.
Maybe:
> Search your library for a card, reveal it, put it into your hand, then shuffle your library. Exile all other cards you own.
:P
I think reveal might be necessary there as weird as it might seem. The wording in general might be faulty (exiling all the things you 'own'). Tip: You can tap all your lands for mana, before casting this spell and float it through.
Janky? Search for Pact of Negation and then any two cards combo such as Painter's Servant + Grindstone in legacy or Time Vault + Voltaic Key in vintage. Technically you could go for three card combos with this as well. WotC been getting rid of these in modern quite ferociously, but this would put considerable strain on that format as well IMO.
I get the fascination with this kind of idea, but once realized and if it becomes competitive enough to become the card to play, it makes a format really stagnant and repetitive. Like Gifts Ungiven or whatever.
i think combo or bust is very neat. Maybe a little unset-like but not a lot more than other things.
In fact even those search outside the game things are REALLY WEIRD, i mean it's totally unusual... Think about it, you are playing constructed and it's like ,o h yeah, one second, i'm gonna go up to my room to get my black lotus or urza headmaster (those might be bad examples, because they might not be legal fetchables, but u get it)
same effect in limited. Magic does some weird-ass stuff, and so a janky spikey combo card would be pretty fine i'd say
The only problem is it mixes spike's ideologies with johnny's.. so might be unstable psychographicallyopolistelephonewise
That's a very good point. Make this get three cards from outside the game. It's quicker than searching your library for them anyway :)
I think the main problem with this is the sheer number of turn 1 wins it will unlock. Games where that happens, after your first, just won't be enjoyable.
This is probably an instance where pushing the concept to its limits is not healthy design wise. Lol if you die to a Gut Shot afterwards. It looks like a 'combo or bust' kind of card.
I used to have a tamer version of this design in a set of mine:
> Thirst for Power
> Sorcery (rare)
> Search your library for a card, reveal it, and put it into your hand. You lose all but 5 life. (Shuffle your library after a player searches it.)
Also there is this thing in MTG where "wishes" tend to refer to cards that can get you cards you own outside the game. Ie. Death Wish, Living Wish, Glittering Wish, etc.
I feel like anything that implements an idea of sacrifice would be interesting. Sacrifice creatures is flavorfully more white than black in my eyes, although mechanically it is lovely in black.
I'd see black doing more of hurting itself rather than actually dying for it's cause (it would if it had a regen plan i'd guess)
Maybe you could give it an X in it's cost, and have it enter with those many counters. Then you could pay life or mana and remove counters to tutor? that feels really black
for a X/1+X which enters with X -1/-1 counters on it. it should also have indestructible, because otherwise it's dead easy easy easy. Then have it say for example, , , Pay 2 Life, Remove two -1/-1 counters from Moon Priest: Search your library for a card and put it into your hand, then shuffle your library
Also i'd remove lifelink and deathtouch because this card doesn't really need to be combat oriented, it can be how it is now. But if you were to do my thing it shouldnt be.
Still too boring for a mythic. Some ideas could be
> , Exile a card named Moon Priest from your hand: (tutor for card).
So grandeur basically.
or something more complex like
> As ~ ETBs, choose a number. Exile that many cards from the top of your library face down. / (exile the top ten cards?)
> You may look at cards exiled with ~.
> , Sacrifice ~: Put a card exiled with it to its owner's hand.
Definitely black, legendary would be interesting and the tutor idea...
Maybe you could have it have an ability to kill itself? That would be a bit more interesting for mythic slot. Then again, adding on abilities might be an unrenewable path for that
If this were yesterday i would have suggested buffing it, but maybe instead you could add something new to it?
There is lots to do with lands, and the name Tumbling Terrain gives lots of flexibility ideas to head, I'm sure it could be more appropriate at mythic with the OOOMPH
Well, it's a delayed action Demonic Tutor which can certainly look mythic. Power wise; this is certainly efficient - 6 life delta a turn, and the opponent really gets doubly punched if they try to stop it.
I agree that there isn't much white about this as it stands. Black gets lifelink from a 'draining ife' theme, which the vampire flavour lives up to.
I'd guess to make it feel mythic - give it a proper name and make it a legend. That also provides a sneaky route to use it as a pure tutor, if you draw a second one. Always nice to find a way to turn a donside mechanic into an upside.
feels rather unnecessary here. has clerics and lifelink. This is yet one of those that feel rare, but not mythic. Makes me think of High Priest of Penance.

Yeah that makes sense. I wouldn't want to fight this often. That would be a lot of really early wins. Maybe this is overly good.
Could be just two cards, but i dont know if that solves the problem, maybe just some of the time

thanks, I'm happy you like it!
fix wording
gets* Awesome card, super selesnyan :D
might be a bit too good. but maybe not
selesnya amirite?
(bus falls off a cliff)
okay, i have an idea.

I feel the ability should avoid searching up three more Moon Priests first.

I like it as Orzhov, but you are right when you say it is just black. I will consider legendary, and maybe add in a sacrifice effect. Will edit.

Eh, "I'm gonna kill your creatures and gain life, and when you try and stop me, mauahhaha - COMBO TIME!" seems like it could be a mythic card.
I agree this isn't it yet. But there's something there that could be it.
Demonic Tutor effect is also known as Diabolic Tutor. So uncommon? 'Efficiency' is a really bad / unreliable way to determine rarity.
Legendary would certainly help while I don't see it help addressing the main issues.

I can see rare, but this doesn't have the oooomph to be a mythic. Looks similar to Nissa's Renewal.
