I always felt that hitting the players as well was the downside on hurricane for green; and so this looks strictly better to me.
I kept vascilating back and forth between hitting intimidate or hitting defender. In the end, I chose defender, for flavor reasons... and, because why not have a secondary color that can take out defenders? Red destroys walls, while green deals damage to them? Sounds fine to me.
It's narrow, I know. It's nice that it can cycle for
, I suppose. I really want to hit players with the damage, but that's a no-no nowadays.
I bounced back and forth with removing the reminder text/removing the flavor text. In the end, I figured I'd keep the reminder text here for now, since not everyone will remember what Salvage does, and move the flavor text in later, removing the reminder text. The flavor text, by the way, is:
A world devoid of life. It's Beautiful, yet ominous. How could we know if this world is ready to receive us? -Denval, Leonin Cleric
It's effectively a 5/5 for cd2. Aggressively costed for common certainly. But it is vanilla, so maybe. As you say, watchwolf suggests that you have to push the rarity to be allowed to push the cost.
I can't help but think a little of Watchwolf when I look at this card, which raises the question, "Should this card be an uncommon?". That's rather weird. I've been trying to make the CHHD cards good p/t with relavent and easy to understand abilities, but that doesn't mean they couldn't do a better job of that in the uncommon slot. It also gives me an excuse to make a cycle of CHD instants and sorceries in the common slot as well, I suppose.
Hm. Architects of Will meets Sea Gate Oracle. Looks good (for the decidedly tricky cost).
It occurs to me that the casting cost of these cards might pop up in Return to Ravnica. You know... what with it being the set that introduced hybrid, and how Ravnica is all about convincing you to stay within the bounds of two colors and all. Oh well.
Originally this card said:
"Opponents play with the top card of their library revealed.
Sacrifice ~: Put the top card of target player's library on the bottom of that player's library."
But that seemed unwelcome on a card that cost

or more. Still might use it on a smaller creature, though.
Actually, I didn't want to attack that because I was afraid of getting into that fight, but Skyreach Manta was far from terrible. Considering that people windmill slam 3/3 flyers for 5cc in limited, The Manta would give you that same ability with any three colors. Sneaking a fourth color in was easy enough in Mirrodin, so, yeah, that made this an Air Elemental in common.
The big point that Shiny Umbreon brings up here is that, like it or not, these cards will be perceived to be bad. Mostly, because people will assume that you need to spend

to get full value. You don't need to use all 5 mana types, and that's one
too many, but I can't protect this card with my arguments when it's in a booster pack. I'm choosing to live with this, and let the cards be liked by a small group of people who think like I do. It's likely that the card wouldn't make it through Magic's pit, though.
At least the XC commons will help solve some of the extra red confusion, however. As soon as people figure those out, the XCCs should be easier.
