Approximately one year after we playtested with Magic 20XX, Wizards printed Go for the Throat, which shaved my casting cost by
. I think GftT is used more than Doom Blade nowadays, though, and is an uncommon, so I don't feel bad about the casting cost... just an annoying case of simultaneous design. That being said, when I looked over my set, I decided that Skin Peel was the number one common pick. Funny, that.
Nothing to see here, just a Sign in Blood reprint.
Haha! Reminiscent of Ignorant Bliss. Which I hadn't realised until now is effectively a slowtrip.
But this guy you can at least put a random 2/2 in front of to prevent taking damage.
I like it. It's about the only way I can see making a common indestructible creature.
Yeah. I mean, even artifact can get a 1/2 flying vigilance for
these days (Hovermyr). Shows how bad Omega Myr was...
It's most reminiscent to me of Fill with Fright. But yeah, this is a combination of two reasonable effects to end up with a pretty strong common.
Makes sense to me - either way it's an annoying creature that's going to be attacking you every turn that you can't do anything about.
Really, this guy reminds me of the usual 1/1 unblockables for
. The difference being, you can block this guy, but you can't kill him. Similar mindspace, oddly.
FWIW, Darksteel Myr is 3 mana for a 0/1 indestructible, so this is about right. It could probably remove the restriction at uncommon, though it's probably wise not to at common, or every game will end up with people staring down these not bothering to attack.
Aww, I'd have kept it for the punnery.
Anyway - I like this. An indestructible blocker is far too good; but an attacker is merely annoying. Until it gets, I dunno, +3/+0 and infect, anyway.
Excellent. Someone who agrees with me. Anti-exile tech removed.
I had someone complement me on how balanced this card was. Which is kind of odd, because when you design cards, you don't think to yourself "How can I make a balanced card?". Obviously, there's some Unholy Strength in here, and some Ravenous Rats in here, though I don't know how I got here. Maybe I thought of two well balanced cards and decided to make a third?
Another piece in the Flash enchantment cycle. I had the good fortune of watching one match where a player played a third copy of this card on a creature after blocks were declared, much to the outrage of his opponent.
Reprint of Mind Ravel. Player had fun when they realized that they could use this on their opponent, and still get Hellbent this turn. Sometimes they'd use it on themselves. Whee!
This seems like a really weird ability in black, but it does make flavor sense (except for the exile part).
Man, I personally love this little dude, though he's admittedly rather bad. Something about giving indestructible on a 2 cost guy... You can't stop this guy! Well, that is, until you put something in his way. He's like The Juggernaut, if he could be halted by weak barriers.
The guys made me put "cannot be exiled" on the card because his name is "Inexorable Skeleton". I tried to tell them that that's not what inexorable means, and to pick up a dictionary, but they wouldn't be happy until I did.
Funny how this card negates a bunch of other flying black creatures. It's been a long time since Bog Imp, though. This guy's fine.
