Well, "can't" is very hard to claim absolutely. They'd need to change the rules, definitely. They'd also need to change not just the Magic rules but the tournament rules, which currently state all copies of a card with the same name are treated identically.
Multiplayer suggestion: "Target player gains 2 life."
Huh. It's not that Wizards wouldn't print this, but that they can't. Rarity isn't defined in game.
It feels wrong though. Not sure why. I think it may be because white usually gets either '1' or 'You die, you die very very dead'. It doesn't usually get numbers in between.
Still, I can't think why this shouldn't be allowed, other than "There's Giant Growth and Dark Ritual and Lightning Bolt and Ancestral Recall... and white gets Healing Salve as its 3-for-1"
Looks great-yet-printable to me. Probably printable in the same set as Shock, actually, because white combatant-damage is cheaper than general red burn (cf Crossbow Infantry vs Prodigal Pyromancer, or Rain of Blades vs Tremor).
Well, I'm here to supply. I'll probably be adding about 7 cards every week, plus some playtest notes. I could have copied the original mtgmaker pics and uploaded them to the server, but then I wouldn't be able to easily alter them. I use approximately 5 computers in the course of the week, and Alex's system is a great improvement over my old method of copying my file and emailing it to myself. Unfortunately, that means we'll have to deal with not having cool images to look at... Many of them were doctored to fit the card frame, and I figure they'd be stretched out of proportion here. Maybe later.
You'll notice that, while the occasional wisdom card asks you to have 7 in hand, most ask for 5. It's just more practical that way... players don't need to have cards that draw them cards to get to 5, but they still have to work to keep their hand size up.
This card threw me for a curve when I first made it. It looks good to me, but it wants to go in a creature rush strategy. That means you probably dumped all your creatures on the board. I haven't seen anyone put this card to good use, but I hold out hope that a strong Blue/White fish deck in draft can use these to slap its opponent around.
Likes Wisdom. This card was a bugger to cost, and by the time I printed him, I felt I had nerfed him too much. Turns out, I seemed to have hit the nail on the head. By week 8, most people drafted him and played him, but he wasn't an all-star... just a good support card when the game goes long. Perfect.
Originally, this card was Flash tacked onto Spidersilk Armor, but by the time I was done with the file, I realized that I had 3 cards that hunted flyers, and that one or two too many. This card got ported to white, and gained the "block an additional creature" line, which turned out better for it, because both abilities now do things in multiples.
White Lightning Bolt. A lot of times, cards I design become real Magic cards, and I look a little foolish, and not as clever in the exchange. I'm still waiting for the hammer to drop on this one. It seems so obvious to me...
There's a number of these "Wizards would never print that card" in the set. When people see these cards, they have a tendency to react negatively... but when they draft with these cards, their opinion tends to flip.
This is also one of the first "Wish" cards we're seeing. It's a minor theme of the set. Also, blah, blah, blah, wisdom.
Another card that doesn't scream "Wisdom!", but solidly supports the theory. Don't want to cast your spells just yet? Use a pump knight and get more damage in.
For artwork, I put in Gerard, Capashen, which confused a number of people...
There's a number of Flash cards in White in Magic 20XX. My thinking is that, if you want to play Wisdom, you probably want to play cards at the last moment. That being said, I've always been a bit leery of this card... it seems very strong. So far, though, no one's complained.
Yeah! First card put up from my old set Magic20XX. I'm tossing up some White commons first.
Aura Blast was chosen because White likes to have a lot of cards in hand. You'll probably hear me repeat myself on that subject too many times. Of special note is the new flavor text. This was the original:
"None of your history books mention me?" laughed Daria.
"They will now."
Which was ironically depressing, because people still don't know who the hell Daria is (probably because she comes from Homelands). The new flavor text is a reversal of Smash's flavor text
"They're ugly, and they're in my way." -
Tahngarth
, which is also in the set.
I've been looking forward to seeing 20XX.
