Approximately one year after we playtested with Magic 20XX, Wizards printed Go for the Throat, which shaved my casting cost by {1}. I think GftT is used more than Doom Blade nowadays, though, and is an uncommon, so I don't feel bad about the casting cost... just an annoying case of simultaneous design. That being said, when I looked over my set, I decided that Skin Peel was the number one common pick. Funny, that.

Heh. Yeah, in Clockwork Wings I wanted a common kill spell along the lines of Go for the Throat but not as good, so I made Extract the Skull similarly. That set's got a lot of good black commons, and a lot of artifact creatures too, but I wouldn't be especially surprised if it ended up being the best kill spell there either.
