Random Generator gave me Wall of Spears and Time Warp. I already have a "Gain another turn" mechanic, and you can only use so many of those in a set. I also have one blue common open, so, after thinking, decided to use blink on defense, that hopefully gives an impression of first strike in passing. Fog Bank is much better than this card, but this card is a common. As it is, I'm going to have to look at blue later and see if I need to tilt it forward more... or increase this card's cost.
That flavor text, by the way, is me monkeying with this famous stanza:
The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ,
Moves on: nor all thy Piety nor Wit
Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line,
Nor all thy Tears wash out a Word of it.
- Omar Khayyám (translation by Edward Fitzgerald).
I wanted to get another spear = time reference in there. The Wiki article on 'Time's Arrow' reminded me of that quote from The Rubaiyat.
Yep. It won't break anything, because 1/2 is still weedy enough to not impact the battlefield much. White and green have been getting 1/2s for C for a while now, and Return to Ravnica gave it to all three other colours with just two cards - Deathrite Shaman and Nivmagus Elemental.
I really like this ability. It does evoke part of banding, and it's a nifty deterrent to the opponent attacking with, say, both flyers and nonflyers.
1/2 for
? With an upside?
Now a 1/2, because why the heck not.
Random generator gave me Helm of Chatzuk and Island, colorshifting the Helm blue. Also, there are no uncommon slots in blue left, so I'm either making this simple, or powerful.
I've done banding, a few times, in Mashup:tG. I'm sure I'll do it again a few times... it can't be used as is, but it's on a healthy number of old cards. But a blue take on it is tough. Something that I haven't used before, and somehow I need to transalte an artifact into a blue card. Normally, that would mean 'make it an enchantment', but this activated ability only wants to affect one creature per turn. Rrrr...
After flipping things around for a while, I came up with this ability, using banding's "If you block one of the things, you somehow mysteriously blocked the flying creature that was banding with it" loophole. It isn't blue. I'm pretty aware that this is probably white or green. I just like the card, so I figured I'd post it. I'll probably come back to this card tomorrow and make something more color appropriate, moving this card out to the workbench in the process. It can hang out here for now, though.
Yes, this is a delightful card. Just white enough with its nod to the Land Tax mechanic, but pretty good acceleration for a white deck. I'd be interested to see what decks it enables (unless it's just WU Control).
That's fair, Umbreon. Changed from each to any.
I know this may look like nothing special, but I'm pretty sure getting two mana for three nowadays is very strong in non-green. This is a hurdle to go through... but if it doesn't give you two mana on round 4, then you're probably winning.
Man, I hate Fewer/Less. Why English needs two different words that describes roughly the same thing is beyond me.
Ah well. I probably should be happy I don't speak Japanese, and don't have to use different number counters every time I mention how many of something I have.
Why each? Why not "if an opponent controls more lands than you", which isn't only the most used template but also the more forgiving one?
And three mana might be a bit too much if this is already colored.
Indeed. Thank you Dude.

Random Generator gave me Plains and Worn Powerstone. Plains makes the powerstone white, which, after thinking about it for a little while, gave me this card.
Originally this card was and uncommon costing
, and I was going to send it to the workbench file for a future Mashup: the Gathering. Maybe I could make a cycle out of it later. But I do need another white rare... and there's already a 'white machine' theme running in Alpha. What the heck. The card's swingy, and I'm sure some people will appreciate it.
