Hmm, I agree with JMG actually: this is an incredibly fun mana cost, and so it'd be much better for it to be on a great fun card rather than one that's so dedicated to a strategy most players consider "unfun".
It's interesting to contrast with Reaper King, another card with a unique five-colour hybrid cost: why does that feel fun where this feels unfun? Partly that makes you jump through rather more hoops. And partly because "destroy target permanent" feels far more epic than "destroy target land". The former can be used as mana denial, but the latter gives you no choice except to be used that way.
This is pretty close to an "I win" button, but it's at least a 5 cost tri colour; and takes a few turns (or an enormous token drop) to get going. Scary though.
Well, to be fair, I think part of the point is to punish your opponent for playing creatures. This card isn't intended to be fun to play against, but I'm quite sure griefers will like it. It shouldn't be anywhere near common, but I assume theunansweredquestion knows that.
Still, I got to admit, if the ability is supposed to be such a griefer, then it probably shouldn't have such a 'fun' casting cost. I assume a number of people would trip on that fact. Also, what's the weirdest payment you can make for this spell? I suppose. Green has LD, and so does black, but I doubt that green would tie land destruction to creatures. Black might.
Your opponent will never want to play a creature again, because you will always pick which land is destroyed. And then every creature you play, you get to choose again. What if it read,
"Whenever a creature enters the battlefield, that creature's controller destroys target land of their choice."
Yeah, it doesn't even have haste for if you cast it after an Earthquake for 10...
Potentially overcosted; potentially 19/19. I like it. Except, well, it's almost always only useful for blocking.
This is amusing as a one-turn "Graargh, you hit me!" But it's got to die at EOT, so it's pretty overcosted compared with Ball Lightning
Yeah, that's crazy.
The last suggestion reminds me of Death's Shadow.
Make it a */*+1 otherwise, it would die in between players turns.
Or if it's power and toughness is supposed to grow with the more damage that has been dealt:
Change it so that it reads, "Flash. Anger Elemental enters the battlefield with X +1/+1 counters, where X is the total amount of combat damage dealt to a player this turn."
Or even, "Flash. Whenever a player takes combat damage, Anger Elemental gets X +1/+1 counters, where X is the total amount of combat damage dealt to a player this turn."
You could even make it like this: "Flash. Anger Elemental gets -1/-1 for each life you have. 20/20" So the more life you lose the bigger it will get. But if you gain life it will get smaller.
I'm thinking that the creature you take from your opponent should only be until end of turn.
Could be too powerful if all I'm sacking are (2) Zombie tokens, and I'm permanently take a pair of your Sun Titans, or a pair of Knight of the Reliquarys, or whatever.
Considering that there is already a similar card, Syphon Soul, and it costs only . I think yours could be WAY too strong. If you're only facing 1 opponent, that's still a 12 point life swing.
I'm sure it would ruin your Transmute ability, but your cost needs to be a lot higher.
Laquatus's Champion costs 6, and hits 1 player for 6 life, but they could still get their life back when he leaves play.
I would think that Crush Soul would need to be at least just to be balanced.
This seems highly abusable. I feel like it should return to the hand rather than the battlefield.
Just an observation; shouldn't "Defender" of the People, have the "Defender" ability? (This creature can't attack).
Sounds like it would fit.
Like Wheel, this needs to reveal any cards it sends to the library, because of cards like Fauna Shaman where all players need to be able to verify that the card you just discarded can legally satisfy the cost.
The wheel isn't strictly better, since this effects all players, and you could make good use out of a deck that shuffles a lot, while randomly smashing graveyard recursive decks.
That being said, yeah, too much. I won't speculate how much, though.
The Wheel is better and costs 2. Pulling a number out of thin air, I would cost this .
Wheel of Sun and Moon. Perhaps this could cost less?
This reads to me like a Generated card. Is it?
This seems overcosted... and perhaps in the wrong colors, though it could work.
Hee. Nice effect. Reminiscent of Sakiko, Mother of Summer, whose cost indicates the power level is about right here.
This was created for Challenge #026.
maybe reword to ...bottom of their library, if you do, they draw a card.
Do they get to draw a card even if, for some reason, you don't have them put it on the bottom of their library? Why would you ever NOT want to do so?
Hmm. Vendilion Clique's effect as an activated ability, but made random to balance it out. Seems pretty good. It certainly doesn't need the "only activate once per turn" clause since the activation has in it.
Are you sure this is okay? The closest comparison I can think of is Gnarled Effigy, which was meant to be / to mirror Dragon Blood, but they found they had to put the costs up. Torture is costed similar to this but only hits one creature per copy of the card. I don't think there's been repeatable accumulating kill like this at common for a long time.
