Other than having some sort of Lovecraftian horror feel, we don't have much direction here. We do have the idea of changing other lands into islands, though perhaps, with the way we're seeing monocolor as invaders, this is something that could bleed into multiple colors. Personally, I think mill might be a good direction. It's oft-maligned, something like enchantments. Can we make it better?
To go with the otherwordly feel, I think a few of us agreed that white should have enchantment creatures. Jack V mentioned several different directions we could go with enchantments in his comments on the set. We definitely need to find something to make them feel good and important, particularly auras.
I'm going to make a "card" for each color and one for multicolor, where we can discuss possible mechanics in a semi-sorted fashion.
Yup. We need mechanics first.
Sounds like an excellent plan - but only once we've got a bit more idea about what we're after.
That was part of my intent, with possibly part of the story being that his/her spark ignited during the event that caused the planar convergence.
Sensible design. Ivy Elemental, one bigger if you're mono-green, but can't take other colours. Only problem: I don't think this is common.
I'd be happy to change Dedication to be this mechanic instead.
Needs to be "~ enters the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter for each
spent to cast it" or it dies to state-based effects. Otherwise, nifty!
I also like this version of Dedication better. It does the exact same thing on 1C and 1CC, but works better bigger. Maybe we could have a cycle of
cards with this. That would be cool.
I agree with Alex, having the signets affiliated with one half & lands the other is a good idea.
as an activation cost is fantastically flavoured if we go that way - they either enhance their own mana or convert the lesser/tainted mana of the other colours into their own 'Pure' mana.
I agree with Rourke that, if the aliens end up monocolor then the first idea above is the way to go
There is also one added bonus to L2i0n0k7's idea. It seems obvious to me that we would end up with a

planeswalker, which seems pretty exciting.
True I do like both of the ideas a lot though.
We have to be careful not to draw too close to the Scars of Mirrodin/New Phyrexia story, which either of these proposed arcs have the potential to do.
A cycle of lands affiliated with one half and signets affiliated with the other half sounds sensible.
I like the first one. We will need mana base smoothing though, as it is also a multicolored set. Maybe, if the monocolored group ARE the invaders, maybe these are artifacts they brought, and a cycle of lands could be from the plane that the multicoloreds are from.
Heh. There's something funny in Alex's approach, that I kind of like. Like 5 alien races from another planet that are still at war with each other, and get enough technology together to start a space race. The multicolored world we're on, is just the unlucky 'America' that the 5 sparring aliens happened to land upon. Or perhaps even a cold war of spy v. spy, similar to the U.S. space race with Russia. Except this time, the moon was already colonized with a primitive culture.
Not to say that that isn't a good plot arc as well, L2i0n0k7. I'm always a sucker for a good "Science gone wrong" morality story.
Hmm... as long as the ability is not continuous, I think we can do this.
We could do something like this for each color.

It could be any, I was just thinking that it could be paid as mono or in multi.
An alternate idea on the story:
The main plain has always been bordered by five alternate planes, each composed solely of one type of mana. This main plane is influenced by the five different types of mana, but the other five have never touched. In an attempt to gain power, a planeswalker draws on these five demi-planes, but things go wrong and she ends up pulling those five planes closer to the main plane. The five one-color planes begin converging with the one five-color plane, and bad stuff happens.
One way this could work is if there's an outlandish plane full of weird alien things, that's disintegrating or otherwise in trouble. This plane has the magical technology to travel between planes (like the Weatherlight and Old Phyrexia did). So they come and invade the other plane, home to humans etc, which is all adapted to multicolour. The invaders all have a common plane of origin, but they have different factions with their own ideas for how the invasion should work and who should end up on top.
Could the "becomes an island" effect be more proactive, possibly slowing your opponent down by a turn.
