Random Generator gave me Isochron Scepter and Hipparion. Normally, I try to get a little trickier with the name, but I keep smiling at that rhyme, so I'll go with it.
The flavor text is obviously inspired by Hipparion. I always thought that was a sloppy bit of flavor. Now, 15 years later, we finally find out the who.
hummm, worst case - player 2 dumps 8 of these on their first turn. Turn 2 they draw land, turn 3 they draw land - turn 4 they cast something for 10... Not too horrible I guess. I do like the thallids as a way to drain counters and make these useful once you've got enough mana. I'm torn between saying "It's too expensive, no one will ever use it" and "Well, if you made it any faster they'd drop way too many tokens" so yeah, 3 is probably about right.
Random Generator gave me Mox Diamond and Thallid Shell-Dweller. This is a bit of extrapolation from both of them, admittedly, but it gets the job done in my mind. How does one go about making a fair Mox? How about not having it do its job on the turn it comes into play?
Originally, this didn't make saprolings, and stole other properties from the Shell-Dweller. But at some point I realized this card would just start piling charge counters on it. It needed a reason to take the counters off if you didn't need the mana.
Unfortunately, this may still be too strong. I'm not as concerned about the fast mana ability, but I'm a little peeved that this has more staying power than Thallid. Still, I had a hard time setting this at "remove three counters" and making players wait 4 turns between activations, so it will do.
Random Generator gave me Waking Nightmare and Windborn Muse]. I took the obvious thing, flipped it, then doubled it back. The set needs a few more commons, so I'm happy when I can extract a common effect from a rare/uncommon mechanic.
Oh. Yes. Yes, it was. Changing.
Thieving Magpie was originally uncommon, but Scroll Thief was common, so this is probably OK at common.
But, erm, was it meant to have flying?
It turns out the flavor text was a bit trickier, so I'm kind of thankful for that. Originally, I turned the Exodus Curiosity flavor text on its ear by showing a different side of the story:
All Crovax wanted to do was rest, but he couldn't ignore the terrible suspicion that he would soon answer Selenia's question.
But that was inappropriate for the card's subject matter. Instead, I borrowed from Portal's Wind Drake and twisted Sir William Blake's words.
Random generator gave me Curiosity and Wind Drake and that combination produced the easiest mashup I've ever had. I thought about making this an uncommon for

... a reverse Hypnotic Specter if you will... but this set needs more commons, and this card fits nicely. Truth is, the card doesn't look that special, but it's probably too cheap for common. That's one hell of an effect if unopposed, and this guy has the potential to spoil a number of drafts...
