Recent updates to Link's Unplaced Cards: (Generated at 2026-08-24 22:44:29)
As is, it affects the first spell, too, and SadisticMystic has made me realize that Remnant cards would be dangerous with Surgical Extraction, but also with things like Shining Shoal and Force of Will. I think I'll edit this so that it doesn't affect the first spell. Then, at least, it would be like a soft Rule of Law.
I'd guess it's fine then. It's difficult to get it to have its full effect; even if you DO, it hits you too; and even THEN all it's really doing is making the second and third spells each turn expensive.
It IS a white soft-counter, which doesn't care what kind of spell it's countering. But it's dual-mana and rare, so maybe that's ok?
(Also, sadly lacks an obvious relationship to Greed)
Probably not, SadisticMystic, but I made this at like 3:00 am. Should I limit it to the first spell of a turn?
And yes, Vitenka, most of the spells with Remnant have a way to exile themselves, but I thought I'd leave that off on this one for power level reasons.
This one, Valor's Levet, and Fearful Omen have a greater effect the turn they're exiled.
It's a less versatile Flusterstorm (but with the broader "target anything" of Hindering Touch): all the copies have to hit the same thing.
However, if you hit yourself with a Surgical Extraction after this resolves, you get an unremovable, better Nether Void. Is that really such a good idea?
Not storm hosing as good as you might think, sadly: storm copies aren't cast. It's basically a white Miscalculation.
Do most cards with remnant end up with the flashback effect the same as the spell effect? Because this works out as:
Cast: get two more lands this turn
Flashback: get three more lands this turn (because the spell gives you two and the new static Remnant effect gives you one)
Not really any different than Exploration, though. I don't remember anyone having any real problems with that card (though, it was in Urza's Saga, so who's to say? Broken cards were hidden in that block by even more borken cards).
Hmm, a white spell tax. Also, hilarious storm hosing. No intrinsic way to get it exiled? I thought most of your remnant's had flashback?
And.. kinda flavour odd that the remnant of the spell is as, or indeed more, powerful than the original.
Shoot. If you have three of this and three forests in your opening hand, you can play them all: Forest, this, forest, this, forest, this... other land. Obviously that's a dream hand, but that probably means this should cost
like Explore.
With this, 4 lands, and a 1CC mana dork, you would have 5 mana at the beginning of turn 3. The setup (T1: land, dork. T2: land, this, land, flashback this, land.) seemed really cool in my head, but it's really no better than playing a dork on turn 1 and 2 more on turn 2. This is more permanent advantage, true, but you'll quickly be playing only 1 land per turn once you dump your hand. I was originally going to comment that this was really good ramp, but the resulting comment (this) convinced me it was merely good ramp.
So, when you flash this card back, you can put two extra lands onto the battlefield? Does your set have any Karoos? Because they seem pretty relevant.
I can't seem to design a common card with Remnant. Like Cyclonic Rift, the normal mode on this one isn't rare-level, but the final mode definitely is.
Fixed weird name inconsistencies.
Gave Extort (It almost had it already!) and a watermark.
Oh, and add Homeward Path to the list of cards I hate for these reasons.
I saw that, and immediately thought of this. However, I also immediately hated it for the same reason I hate Grafdigger's Cage and Rest in Peace. Cards like that, overpowered, blunt, obvious hosers, are bad design and I wish they didn't exist. I know I've designed some myself, like this one, but that's because I was trying to think of hints Wizards might print. And look. I was fairly correct.
If Vitenka liked this, he'll love the official one
I did mean it as a hoser, but I hoped it would have some other cool interactions. Which it does, obviously.
