I agree with you, though. :-)
Originally I thought of this as a 1/1 for
that triggered on any spell being countered, but that seemed too good.
I'm just laying out the different options that are possible.
I checked to see if there were any powerful defenders that could be abused with this. All I found were Elder Land Wurm and Grozoth. And Molombé, of course.
Power level? I don't know. That would probably be fine.
Very appropriate counterspell in G/W. It may need a colored activation cost; on the other hand, it did take 3 colors to cast the thing in the first place. Also, why not "targets you or a permanent you control"?
Oh, yeah. Probably.
The life gain just looks weird. Isn't it white that it only bounces blocked creatures?
I considered that, but then it removes the cute synergy between returning it to their hand and then having them discard.
"Put target blocked creature on top of its owner's library. That creature's controller discards a card"?
Neat thing about that... you don't even have to make it sorcery speed.
If it was "Return target blocked creature to its owner's hand. That player discards a card," then it wouldn't be white.
Yeah, it's not very black, is it? Hmm...
Ooh, fun (for me, not my opponent). Not sure what's black about it, though.
