This is a very, very interesting thinning mechanic--almost feels taken out of Dominion. Nicely done.
I think you want to format this so it has "T: add G to mana pool", unless you meant to reformat the other cycle of cards.
All right. Probably needs to be green. Therefore needs a cool reason to ditch counters (move them to other creatures?). Regeneration is fine, but I feel like that's something the user will blow off arbitrarily. Maybe I should let go of that concern in general.
Then, when it gets to be an 8/8, maybe the "Rhox/Thorn Elemental" ability?
Might make sense as a G/W gold creature too.
Agreed with Houlding; minimum 5/5 for 1 life on the caster's part is pretty solid.
This creature is already a bit cluttered, so I'm not sure just adding a keyword line is the right approach.
Also, looking at Pygmy Mendwurm, why does this use +1/+1 counters? These monsters grow up and start hoarding their girth inside dispensable capsules? Not everything needs a flavor justification, but I am curious if you wouldn't rather there be a more distinct visual+mechanical connection between two similarly named creatures.
That is to say: I don't always think of toughness bonuses as being a "mending" action, whereas life gain, damage-prevention, and regeneration are definitively "mending".
Lastly, you may have also just given yourself too uncomfortable a task in crafting a ground-based Timmy-fatty in white, color of busty angels and courageous archons. If Timmy has grown accustomed to Vengeful Archon in his core set, is Lord of the Big Butts really going to excite him?
This effect seems too powerful for too little drawback and it's not hard at all to imagine exiling two creatures. Exile effects tend to cost 3 minimum, have a restriction like "red or black" and/or come with a drawback (opponent gets land/life).
This is two mana, bye-bye and hey, if you don't have 2 more, there goes your army.
I like the counters thing where it is for now, might change my mind later.
Still, I think there's something there when you pointed out that he's essentially vanilla when he sheds all the skin. I'd go with Protection from Black if it weren't for the fact that he's intended to work with the B/W "war of attrition" themed cards in the set. Pro-Red would be fine, but man, I REALLY want to see a Crossblighted Medic try f*ing with him. Not likely, but still awesome.
So with that, what to add on? Vigilance? Protection from Sorceries? I'm open to any ideas.
I like the idea. Perhaps have N counters come off a turn, or similar? At rare white gets some quite ridiculous things, a vanilla 8/8 while very good, is not necessarily the most ridiculous of them.
(I'm also amused by the idea of what happens if you have 25 mana, and suddenly really, really need an 8/20 blocker :))
