Welcome back to another top-down design challenge. In the vein of Challenge # 112, I will be providing a description of a plane below. I think people enjoyed this the last time I did it, and I was in the mood to do it again, so here we are. If you have any questions on what to do, see the first comment on Challenge # 112. This challenge will work almost exactly the same way.
I made Sarlena, Paladin of the Northern Verge.
See Challenge # 127 and Celestial Purge.
Oh, heh. I just happened to glance at Challenge # 127, and realized that a number of cards in Homelands Restored either do fit this description, or will. Right now I've got Murat, Death Speaker, Kakra, Sea Troll, Zeki, Reef Pirate, Halina, Dwarven Trader and Serra and Feroz. Baris, Serra Inquisitor too, technically, but I plan on changing him. In fact, I don't think I'm sold on any of these as they stand. They're all subject to change.
Looking at my list of 'to do', I also have 'Baki, Wizard Attendant', 'Daria', 'Taysir', 'Devin, Faerie Noble' and 'Joskun, An-Havva Constable'. Homelands sure had a lot of unrepresented names in the flavor text...
I want to make one for Julius Caesar :)
Ha. Cute. :)
I created Taigam, Ambitious Master, whom Wizards treated like Gisa and Geralf.
Forgot P/T
See Challenge # 127.
Gor Muldrack, Cryptohistorian as featured on Amphin Cutthroat
See Challenge # 127
As featured on Amphin Cutthroat.
I wanted a flavour of going and talking to non-human civilisations. I wasn't sure if this is quite right, but it seemed to capture it to me.
Nifty. More interesting than Omnibian for the reason you state.
Gulistan, Simic biomancer as mentioned on Adaptive Snapjaw.
Frog Prince, the frog from Turn to Frog
Hans, Lhurgoyf Hunter as featured with Saffi Eriksdottir on Lhurgoyf
See Challenge # 127.
Based on Hans from lhurgoyf. There have been several references to this flavour text iirc, but not Hans?
I originally was going to make it running-away flavoured, but Hans, Lhurgoyf Hunter was a lot more interesting. I envisaged him as already a lhurgoyf hunter when a hunt went wrong and Saffi was (probably) killed. But alternatively, maybe he just stumbled into that and has been looking for revenge since.
I'm not quite sure about "creature whose power or toughness changed this turn". I wanted something that would hit lhurgoyfs but not be that narrow, but it's not quite right, maybe "has a P/T setting ability" would be better, but harder to write unambiguously?
e.g., not i.e.
I almost gave the creature haste to play up the "its the same creature" flavour and to make up for this needing to be set up over multiple turns, but I decided it just looked out of place.
See Challenge # 127.
Based on the frog from Turn to Frog :) That's a bit of a cheat, but it's not technically a frog card since it's an instant.
Like Mass Polymorph it's another variant on polymorph, but emphasising the "it's fun to do it yourself" and less "clunky blue removal". And hopefully slightly less abusable since its a creature itself.
For Challenge # 127.
Based on Gulistan, Simic biomancer from Adaptive Snapjaw.
I'm not sure if this ability is quite right, but it's very simic. I like the way it can be removal or pump in the right circumstances.
I'm not sure why this was the first name that came to my mind. Avaricta, Gitaxian Researcher
See Challenge # 127. Taken from Blighted Agent
