6BB -> 6BU
I agree the second ability is more blue in the colour pie, but the third doesn't have much precedent. It's like Diabolic Tutor inasmuch as it's like anything.
I can't about costs, though the second and third ability feel like distinctly blue abilities. Maybe + ability is one too high for his starting loyalty, though I don't play any formats where any of the high-cost planeswalkers really drop to know if killing them with damage is something that actually happens to them.
I think that the -X could include opponents' libraries as well though. That might feel more Bolasy.
Bolas, Mastermind
See Challenge # 129.
I originally envisaged this making tezzeret and sarkhan vol tokens, but decided that maybe I should go hog wild and have a planeswalker that makes other planeswalkers in general. That's not quite what the challenge says, but hopefully it's close enough?
I'm not sure about the exact costs of the abilities, or the "gain control" ability. Or if the last ability should have a fixed cost instead of X.
Oh, cool!
Okay, so I've used this challenge before on another forum, but I really liked it.
EDIT: Entered my own challenge Ral and Tamiyo, Research Team
Her ultimate is now the ultimate of Narset Transcendent, word-for-word. In fact, Narset's story literally follows what I laid out in the first post: she got a creature card in Khans of Tarkir and a planeswalker card in Dragons of Tarkir.
Ooh. Very neat.
You could drop Ordeal of Thassa on something and just not attack with it, so the Ordeal sticks around to keep copying and drawing 2 extra cards a turn. Mini-Arcanis!
Thank you!
I really wasn't sure on the cost. It seemed like getting this, another creature, and an aura powerful enough to be worth copying into play was a sufficient hurdle it didn't need to cost any more. But it might be too powerful with some particular auras in which case it could easily be up-costed a bit.
Wheee. That's a really cool ability. Feels undercosted, though ICBW.
Actually I want a
or
legend with this ability to be a commander :)
Balal Enhancemancer
See Challenge # 128.
Wasn't sure how to capture the idea of wizards studying the connections to the spirits, but if we can think of them as further enhancing creatures imbued with spirits, you can imagine something like this. Hopefully it's normally simple (with simple P/T boosting auras), but will occasionally have interesting interactions.
It's only for one turn so there's fewer memory issues, although it's already quite complicated.
You could also have other aura-related creatures, eg. ones that filter your library for auras, or reduce casting cost, etc.
This is a nice representation of the flavor. I like the loss of flying and addition of trample. The P/T boost feels appropriate, too.
Oh, hmm. That first ability really isn't blue, though I do get the flavor you're going for.
Oh yes! Not surprising I would come up with a very similar idea given the flavour :)
Wow, it's Skywarper Mass :)
Oh yes, getting the land out untapped makes sense for "between 3 and 4 mana", and has precedent on a 4-mana search spell (Reap and Sow).
Caught in the Current
See Challenge # 128.
I wanted something that captured the flavour of trying to swim back up a waterfall, but it's a bit too wordy (and maybe out-of-pie). Any suggestions?
Thank you both!
Yeah, I suspected this was a little weak at 4. It started as a sorcery version of farhaven elf, but I increased it from one token to two tokens to justify being a sorcery instead of a creature, and to make it a bit more like a colonisation.
It would be nice if it could be slightly stronger, or slightly stronger than farhaven elf for 3 mana. I also considered giving you the tokens only if you searched for a forest, or something like that, but it didn't seem quite right either. Maybe it could put the land in untapped?
Yeah, this is cool. It'd be nice if out could be 3 mana, but given Growth Spasm and Farhaven Elf I think 4 is correct.
See Challenge # 128.
A variant of the "aligned" ability on Eshadol Conscript and Fire Punch. I'm not sure it makes sense to have it off-color as here, but it what fit this flavour.
Some great spirits: Canamb Earth Spirit, Sunglare Spirit, Spirit of the Endless Waterfall
