thats even worse. turn 3 kill using 10 lands and 50 showers.
Could deal damage based on the number of cards in your hand that share a name with it.
We were just talking about how easy it is to exile whole chunks of your deck in Beheading. That said, this at least requires more dedication than Beheading does. But I get the impression that a theoretical tournament worthy deck filled with 25 Molten Showers wouldn't be healthy for the game.
Have it exile itself, and count the copies in Exile?
You know, I think Basic cards are an okay concept. I'm pretty sure we can get more for our money, though. I'm not sure where the card gets too good...
Though, I do know that there's a reason why many games find alternate uses for their 'basics', either by having a bunch of cards that reference them, or by having the basics get better for each one you pack. I kind of want to Flame Burst this card, but it's kind of hard to make one that scales well, considering mill exists.
I'm thinking selectional evasion like deathtouch and a rider upon hitting opponent. so opponents get a bad deal whether they block or not. eg red gets Paintouch (whenever this blocks or is blocked, it deals X damage to that creature) and blue gets Weaktouch (whenever this blocks or is blocked, that creature gets -X/-0 until end of turn.) coincidentally both abilities also work in black, the color between red and blue.
riders are triggered when it damages an opponent, like draw a card, loot, exile-cast, steal an artifact, etc. so you get a benefit whether it's blocked or not. more interactive than pure evasion.
The idea behind Evade is that it would keyword "can't be blocked," so it actually wouldn't be an entirely new blue ability.
Oh, indeed. We designers want it to have one, but its pie and flavour don't really want one. I had a discussion with lpaulsen on his blog post on blue creature keywords about what such a beast might look like... I ended up wondering about "mechanics that work better if you're smarter", but that's a hard flavour to turn into mechanics itself.
It's hard to come up with an interactive blue combat mechanic because blue doesn't really want one.
Seems fine. I don't think it meets all the desired criteria for a new blue keyword mechanic, because blue already has an abundance of evasion abilities, but it's fine nonetheless.
See Phasing Specter and Goblin Pathfinder. Evade is an attempt at a mechanic that could appear on
cards. An alternate possibility:
Evade N (~ can't be blocked except by N or more creatures.)
Evade ∞ (~ can't be blocked by creatures.)
Evade is an attempt at a
mechanic.
Interesting. ~ is unblockable except by creatures you choose.
Thanks. :-)
Sweet!
Heh. Like a one-drop version of Flesh Reaver.
Niice. I can definitely see this getting printed in some set that has gold and where either white or green are quite defensive.
See Vow of Blood and Vow of Venom.
Feel free to complete the cycle. These are a continuation of the Vow cycle from the first Commander product, Vow of Duty and friends.
Come to think of it, these all can and probably should have hybrid mana costs.
