So that would be a creature with a printed power of 5. I see what you're going for there, but that's an awkward combination. You sure this shouldn't read something like "When X creatures deal combat damage to you in a turn"? After all, the deck this hoses isn't Gruul... it's Boros.
As an aside, black normally can't sacrifice artifacts or enchantments. The color pie doesn't like it.
Hmm... why does this creature enter the battlefield tapped? It doesn't seem to enhance the message of this card... just gives players one more thing to think about without anything gained, IMHO.
Huh. That Human sure loves his job. If no one has any work for him, he just buries random things around the house.
The ability is a bit odd on a 0/2. I know that's a benefit, and you know that's a benefit, but many players will assume that's a drawback. When that happens, I like to cost creatures aggressively, so those players just see an okay card with a drawback, not a poor card with no benefit. Had you not been doing your own thing with this set, I'd have suggested a 0/4 or a 1/2. You're more than welcome to disregard that advice.
Lets get some more comments rolling.
Deffinively.
Fair enough. One half of the Grand Arbiter at a time is enough, eh?
there, it has flying.
My rule of thumb: never make spells cost less with this type of card/
mill 2 it is
flavor text added.
I'm certainly fine with Unsummon in the set.
Still missing the colour indicator checkbox. I agree with jmg that this ought to do something else. Either "Draw a card at the beginning of the next turn's upkeep", or preferably, give the creature... something. The Sengir Vampire ability, maybe. (That'd work better if this was an Aura with Flash.)
Vedalken Entrancer has a rating of 1.7?! But it was awesome in Ravnica draft, one of the absolute go-to commons for the Dimir mill deck. Hmm... the Ravnica printing has a rating of 2.3, which is a bit better. I guess this was bad in M13 but fairly good in Rav, and a lot of people don't realise how good it was in Rav. Dampen Thought only rates 2.8 and there was a classic Kamigawa draft deck built around that.
This is much worse than the Entrancer though. Could it at least be mill 2 rather than 1? Mill 1 is just so singularly unexciting - it'll almost never make any difference even activated every turn over the course of a whole game.
Yeah, this is likely fine at uncommon. (Wizards would be more likely to print it at rare, but the effect might not be quite splashy enough for rare. I'm tempted to suggest channelling Grand Arbiter Augustin IV and add "Spells cost you
less to cast" as well (as well as bumping it to rare).
Oh, hey, you can use this on yourself to create your own miracles. I suppose it had something over the entrancer.
I was almost thinking of Vapor Snag instead, but blue always needs a good cheap bounce in every set. Y not unsummon,
wuh
2/3, and wording change. cost to 1u
I advocate it too, sometimes :P
I'll see what I can come up with.
I don't see a problem with spinning off of Aether Storm. Why not turn it into something like "Whenever a player casts a creature spell, sacrifice ~. If you do, deal 4 damage to that player." Seems playable, is a nod to the original card, but isn't the exact same.
Also, if anyone asks if JMGariepy advocated for blue direct damage... tell them I wasn't here. ;)
I'd be happy with anything, really. I'd be happiest, however, with something that helped frame Unsummon in the world of Ulgrotha. Unsummon doesn't feel like it belongs in Homelands... but it should be very easy to make it feel at home there. It's such an iconic spell, it can go anywhere, really.
Boogie Woogie Woogie!
Actually, I assumed it was your choice. It looks like BKM made the same mistake. It's the semi-colon's fault. We normally use semi-colons with the expression "Choose One" that you find on cards like Fever Charm. This is easily solved, however, by just starting the card off with "Target player chooses. Either,"
As an aside, that means this card has a very low power level. Vedalken Entrancer, which is better than this card in five ways (okay... 'human' is a better creature type... but you get the idea) has a Gatherer rating of 1.768 stars.... that's lower than Scathe Zombies (I play 2-star Modern. I have a good understanding of what's kicking around at the bottom of the swimming pool). I assume you don't want to change the abilities, so I suggest making this card a 2/4. And maybe changing the activation to just
.
I'm cool with uncommon. Casual players may get 3 or so... but they won't end up with 7. I know I came down hard, but I do like this card, too. It is very good in EDH, and I find the times when it's good in constructed to be very funny.
