See also Rewind. Which was all right, good in certain control decks, but not outstanding.
OK how does this work now? Changed last sentence in reminder text to "You cannot play land cards or Reclaim abilities this turn."
So once you reclaim the first time, that's it for the turn.
It's still possible to exile a bunch of Reclaim cards in succession, and do something like flash back a couple Roar of the Wurm after a massive self-mill. Hence "free mana".
I had to rework this following the change to how Reclaim works as, if played on an opponent's turn, the replacement effect was now useless.
When successful at countering a spell, it is effectively a Counterspell except that you can't play it on turn 2 due to its CMC of 4.
OK Reclaim is no longer free mana, it is now 'replacement' mana for if you would miss a land drop. The mechanic was always meant as a 'fix' for mana screw, not as "Free Mana".
Hopefully with the reworded reminder text this now works how I originally wanted it to (I have learned a lot from this site since I first designed these cards/mechanics).
Free mana...om nom nom...
Any 15 cards with reclaim would do. Fewer if there's anything with reclaim more than
.
Except that you can only have four of these... unless you mean twenty lands with reclaim.
So, I just need a few Careful Study/Tolarian Winds, 20 of these, then start casting Emrakul, the Aeons Torn? Seriously?
You are most correct Alex - been a crazy hectic week. I was refering to a discarded version that had the text "If you play ~ with Flash, counter target spell unless its owner pays
. If there is no legal target, ~ goes to the graveyard instead of entering the battlefield.
Was far too clunky/wordy for it to work and I didn't want this to be an instant that gave you a token with the 2nd ability.
Camruth's last sentence is incorrect. You can cast the creature on an empty stack, since it's a creature with flash. The ETB trigger will fail to trigger since it'll have no targets, but you're allowed to cast the creature, just like you can cast Nekrataal on an empty board.
leaving it at

where it is pretty much OK. It can maybe counter the first spell you use it against but then has to wait to lose summoning sickness before you can use it again. Plus, you can't gain access to the second ability until you cast it & you can't cast it unless there is a spell to counter as the first ability isn't a "may" ability.
If you gave the sac ability a mana cost it wouldn't be so bad.
Counter two spells for 3 mana? That would be one heck of a strong card. It wouldn't be all the time, but if you had this ready on round three, you'd almost always be able to counter the next spell your opponent played.
@ jmgariepy - yes, but you would only use the first ability if the caster only had one or no extra mana available.
To make this fit better into
I am thinking of making this more like Mystic Snake a-la:

.
, Sacrifice Selachi Spellbreaker: Counter target spell.
Selachi Spellbreaker -
Creature - Merfolk Mystic [1/1]
Flash
When Selachi Spellbreaker enters the battlefield, counter target spell unless its controller pays
This way it is a "Disruptive Snake" + Daring Apprentice. Better fit for blue/green that way?

or even

then.
I think I could drop it to
Imaginary scenario #1:
I play Sign in Blood. You groan, but only activate the first ability, countering it unless I pay
. I let the card get countered and follow it up with Day of Judgement, leap to my feet and start high-fiving everyone in the building. Ronald McDonald then busts through the front door and starts passing out Happy Meals for everyone!
This is just Disruptive Student + Daring Apprentice, so yes, seems monoblue to me.
I think the Green is a callback to Mystic Snake and its Ilk, a Creature/counter. He could probably get away with this being mon blue though.
Doesn't seem green at all. Am I missing something?
