Currently this is strictly better than Forest.

Dropped Reclaim to {g} and made common. Yes its still better than a Forest but you can only have 4 of them in your deck.

....Yeah? The same is true of Tropical Island. There's still no reason not to run four of them. Sorry, refusing to obsolete the basic lands is one of Wizards' few remaining principles, and one of the core restrictions in designing nonbasic land.

dropped the forest type so its no longer searchable as a forest. Should they move up to Uncommon?

Stuff I come up with at work isn't always the most complete and finalised of ideas. I jot them down, enter them during my lunch break, then rely on the always useful comments to fine tune them into workable cards.

Sorry for my confrontational tone above.

Currently, moving to uncommon isn't an option, because the principle about "nothing better than a basic land" applies at all rarities. Your options are:

1) Ignore this principle of Wizards' and leave it as it is. It'll brand your cardset as deliberately ignoring Wizards' design principles, but it is an option.

2) Give it a drawback. ETBT or "ETBT unless something" is the most common. Pain for drawing coloured mana is another common option.

Nah don't worry. Any input is valuable input and you raised a very valid point. So with the ETB tapped it looks better ?

2011-01-17 11:33:49: Camruth edited Reclaimed Wood

Yes, much better. It looks like every common/uncommon land cycle ever in an expansion, which you could say is not exactly a way to stand out, but it looks much more printable now.

So, I just need a few Careful Study/Tolarian Winds, 20 of these, then start casting Emrakul, the Aeons Torn? Seriously?

Except that you can only have four of these... unless you mean twenty lands with reclaim.

Any 15 cards with reclaim would do. Fewer if there's anything with reclaim more than {1}.

Free mana...om nom nom...

OK Reclaim is no longer free mana, it is now 'replacement' mana for if you would miss a land drop. The mechanic was always meant as a 'fix' for mana screw, not as "Free Mana".
Hopefully with the reworded reminder text this now works how I originally wanted it to (I have learned a lot from this site since I first designed these cards/mechanics).

It's still possible to exile a bunch of Reclaim cards in succession, and do something like flash back a couple Roar of the Wurm after a massive self-mill. Hence "free mana".

OK how does this work now? Changed last sentence in reminder text to "You cannot play land cards or Reclaim abilities this turn."
So once you reclaim the first time, that's it for the turn.

OK lost Reclaim as it was another mechanic that, whilst interesting, just caused too much confusion...sigh
