The empire now controls almost two thirds of the Pridelands. The lands of the Second, Third, Fourth and Sixth prides are under their dominion with the Leonar forcibly relocated to 'Reservations' where they must remain on pain of death. Rather than face this fate, the Fourth Pride has turned on its own and now serves the Imperial Legions as scouts and trackers, leading them to the hidden places of their people, and speeding the Valurian conquest of the rest of the Pridelands.

The Third and Sixth prides for the most part remain on their reservations, though many have joined the rebel bands scattered accross the grasslands. The Reservation of the Second Pride sits abandoned, a scorched and smoking ruin, littered with the bodies of almost all members of the pride. What happened here? a Massacre. When a group of Leonar approached their Liason demanding more and better food fior their people or that there would be trouble in the camp, the Liason overreacted and called in the troops. A group of young Leonar warriors tried to bar the entry to the reservation and, in the squabble that ensued, a Valurian trooper, lost his saddle and was trampled by his own mount. Seeing one of their own go down, the Valurians drew weapons and the slaughter began. One hour later, not a single male, female or cub remained alive in the main settlement. By the end of the day the entire reservation had been purged of 'Dangerous Rebel forces'.

News of the massacre spread like a grasslands wildfire and The First and Fifth Prides are resolved to fight to the death rather than surrender. Hope however, has come from an unexpected source. Strange humans have appeared from the waste. They claim to be the descendants of lost Sendaria and offer support and assistance to the Free Prides in their struggle against the Valurians.

The Valurians meanwhile, have troubles of their own. One of their prospecting teams, searching for new sources of Lifespark manastones, has accidentally stirred up a previously unknown Intaki Hive and troops are being relocated from the front lines of expansion to deal with this issue before it gets out of hand. The Intaki see this merely as a fresh influx of new resources.
