This just saw print in the newest Commander product as Song of the Dryads with the exact same mana cost. The only differences are the rarity and that the "real" one can hit creatures.
Dude's two-part scenario can be condensed into one part if the thing hitting your Gate creature is Oblation, Chaos Warp or Spin into Myth. The same kind of unfortunate fix is probably needed to Anxious Explorer and likely some others.
I don't know if this creature needs to be rare or not. I will say though that it seems odd that its colours don't include green.
Edited after dude1818's concerns; realized it's probably a rare :-\
Unhappy things. :(
What happens if you activate its ability and lose the ability to know the top of your library in response? Say your opponent casts Turn to Frog on this, your only source of viewing the top, and then you shuffle your library before the ability resolves.
Boosted cost and power by 1 each.
Very true. I was just brainstorming abilities that would be useful with Gate without and I thought of Madblind Mountain/Myr Mindservant.
I suspect Wizards would prefer "put the top card of your library on the bottom of your library". Shuffling every turn makes for boring games.
Added a cost of
to the second ability. It's not as explosive as Nythos, Shrine to Nyx, but it is a lot easier to use.
Fixed typo.
No, it doesn't exist. I think two cards might be doable, but anything more would be too much. I don't know if I want this or Windriddle Palaces (or something else entirely) for her ultimate.
Hmm, I was toying with an ability that let you play with multiple top cards revealed as well, but I'm not sure how it actually plays, speaking purely physically. Seems like an awful lot of fiddling with the deck during each draw step. Does it actually exist anywhere in official cards? I don't think I've ever seen it.
See Tamiyo. I like my concept but it's unfortunately rather wordy.
Wonderful suggestions, Alex! I'd totally forgotten about my own Suggestions page.
You're right that a "negative" green Aura is very difficult. Maybe I'll shift Sense of Responsibility into green and come up with something else for white.
I'm particularly in love with the suggestion of a Seething Song variant. How did I not think of that? It goes nicely with both Wandering Minstrels and Stonecourser.
I'd be somewhat cautious. Grazing Gladehart was a deceptively powerful card. This could certainly be 2/3, but being a Gray Ogre would... well, it'd probably be fine, but it'd be quite a lot better, at least.
I guess that's the kind of decision to make after a couple of playtests, or pointing runs, if it's looking like green is noticeably strong or weak.
