I'm going to have more tap abilities similar to Infantry Veteran in
Oath, to differentiate it a bit from
. These tap abilities, ideally, should lend towards an exalted-style gameplan. Will adjust other designs accordingly.
Oath, therefore, will primarily about choosing a color of creature that you want your tap abilities to affect. For gameplay's sake,
/
tap abilities will be beneficial to your own creatures.
Might make a cycle of off-color activation permanents at common, but not sure if I have the room for it.
All
-based dual lands are going to be based off of parts of a city.
Weird little build-around me card. Not sure if there's space for it in this set. Not sure if the wording on the cost is correct. It should be "1/1 creature" or "creature with base power and toughness 1/1". I opted for the shorter wording for now.
The flavor text specifically references Nero's death, though suicide was a preferrable option compared to death by mob for a lot of figures throughout Roman history. While most flavor text references will be kept to around Roman Republic, I chose to include some references from the early Roman Empire.
This probably won't end up in the set since I already have shame in the common removal suite, but I wanted to use this flavor of pacifism compared to the typical "wtf i hate war now" flavor of the other Pacifisms.
Trying out alternate flavor. Maybe a little more black? I really want this design in black.
White making a Black citizen is interesting. I thought about having two colors of citizens, but ultimately chose to limit it to two types of 1/1 tokens. I think I'll adjust this flavor to feel a little more black.
Yeah, this design was pretty phoned in. The flavor of these tends to be leaning more "White things make it multicolor white" than giving straight up white bonuses, so I'll adjust accordingly.
Edited the effect to be more substantial amd feel W/B instead of W.
Mmm, very much not-black, indeed. In fact, it would be much more in-colour if it was white and the citizen it makes is black.
Very interesting flavor, perhaps not particularly
, but still.
A life gain of 2 feels really minuscule for me. I would go with 3 or 4 instead.
Or better yet, I would tie the life gain to the design of the card more. Maybe gain life equal to the creature's toughness / CMC instead?
Huh. Given specific cards, that can be a huuuge benefit instead (ie. Leveler and such).
True, true. Testing at 2W for now. The biggest downside for this card is that it turns off ETB effects, so I think it should be fine. That Craterhoof Behemoth or Avacyn, Angel of Hope doesn't matter if your opponent decides to ping it.
Yeah, the card is specifically in reference to how Tiberius Gracchus (half of the inspiration for the named characters in the flavor text) died - basically he and his supporters got whipped into a frenzy when confronted by the Senate and a bunch of their supporters, and somewhere along the way, Tiberius got shanked. It can definitely go either
or
depending on if you think the whole event was orchestrated to stab him in the first place, but since
is about Roman class struggles I picked black. Could stand to reword that flavor text.
Might also be sensible to make it a sorcery; being instant isn't helping it and adds temptation to try to misuse it.
Oh, and rules manager will wibble at the prospect of potentially returning non-creatures that are also spirits. Personally, I think that's a dumb objection, but it is one.
Slight memory issues here but they seem unlikely to matter... though this particular set does have a bunch of "if it's white" effects so it can become relevant whether the creatures remaining are the reanimated ones or not.
Any kind of counters would alleviate this issue. Currently the only kind of counters being used are "Coin" counters. Maybe those could be placed on them upon returning? It could mayhaps work as a strange reference to Charon's obol.
Oh wait, there's at least one card that uses +1/+1 counters. Pump up the mana cost and use those?
IMO if it's white it should gain like first strike or something that would tie it to the color. Now the color restriction for the additional buff just feels out of place.
I like the card a lot. The name made me think the flavor would be more like faceless assassin striking in the crowd without anyone noticing at first (ie. assassin's creed)
"unruly mob, stirred into a frenzy" sounds more like a
thing.
Nice flavor. Given that it's a "bad Resurrection", couldn't it cost less?
It's surely quite bombastic uncommon. I could see it turning a losing game into a win single-handedly by removing the opponent's threats and then hitting face in the air for the win.
