Common laws are generally very lax. As you move up higher in rarity, the laws get more restrictive. Not sure if it should be the other way around.
For the most part these cards are costed according to their stats, but more restrictive laws or more insane bonuses might cause them to get bumped higher.
Not!Greeks have melded with Egyptians in Blue. WU archetype is pillowfort plus fliers, so this card is meant to be a finisher of sorts.
Not sure how I should word the clause. "Each 1/1 creature you control"? "Each creature that's 1/1"?
All previous effects that cause creatures to lose all abilities have set a power and toughness, so I think I'll keep the Power/Toughness setting. While I think what you say technically works within the rules, incidentally killing various sorts of Maros isn't what I want to go for in this, and just removing all abilities without shrinking the creature narrows its applications.
This doesn't need to set p/t...
> 107.2. If anything needs to use a number that can't be determined, either as a result or in a calculation, it uses 0 instead.
The interaction with Tarmogoyfs is pretty clear to me - though those kind of cards aren't prevalent enough to even warrant any reminder text IMO.
Possible creature types:
Politicans: Vedalken (anything from Azorius), Rats, Elves.
Possible creatures for massed ranks of legions: zombies (would be a big reinterpretation, but they'd fit the "we obey orders better than anyone else" idea lots), goblin (not so much in recent interpretations, but very legion-y in some older ones), leonin (lawful warriors)
Animals: Elephants, Lions, Wolves, Dogs, Bears, Boars
Yeah, I quite like the current version. I think it should be 1/1: 2/2 gives you weird choices with creatures smaller than that. I like Shame and Humble as names, though the others would work too.
I am liking the targetted humility more and more. Given how many static abilities are in this set, as well as how ubiquitous 1/1s are, this mechanic seems perfect to fill in White's remaining mechanic gap.
The issue is the name. Ostracize doesn't quite fit the flavor for what it does, so here are a couple alternatives:
Decry, Shame, Humble, Degrade, Oppress, Persecute, Slander, Discredit
Trying to look for something that captures the flavor of random senators on the street giving impromptu speeches about how target creature's mother consorted with barbarians and how the creature plans to seize power and make himself a tyrant. I am partial to "Shame" right now, with Oppress as 2nd place. Thoughts?
Barbarian slaves could be covered by orc/goblin maybe?
You've got the greeks - slightly foreign, respected (but conquered anyway) and considered wise. Elves seem to fit there.
Tempted to give it the flagbearer mechanic but the onboard complexity is already really high in this set. Thinking about reducing the overall number of Instants and creatures with flash to offset it a little bit, which is an issue since White usually has a fair amount of Instants. Might make a lot of Assassinate-esque spells and Sorcery speed Reprisals to round out White's removal suite instead of the standard Rebukes and Gideon's Reproaches
Also I am like 95% sure this works.
Other issue: What races other than Human fit in the archetypical Roman caricature? Elephants? Elves? Hound people?
Battalion Support. Also meant for flavorful (kinda) implementation of the Roman maniple.
