Fixed the ultimate via much appreciated feedback across the fabled internets.
Over on the salvation boards, Greg Krajenta gave me a suggestion that I tweaked a bit into this:
[-6] Exile a card you own from outside the game. Until end of turn, you may pay the mana cost of a card in your hand and discard it. If you do, copy the exiled card and cast it without paying its mana cost.
It's an ungodly 42 words long, but I think this mimics the original intent the best, without too much cumbersome rules baggage.
That's a cleaner ability ruleswise, but it ever-so-slightly shifts the intent. The player not only gets two spells for the price of one, but in a tournament scenario you would have to provide greater accommodation in your sideboard in order to take advantage of it.
Better idea: "Until end of turn, whenever you cast a spell from your hand, you may play a card you own from outside the game without paying its mana cost."
As I'm filling in the skeleton, adjusting various things based on criticism, and reviewing booster assortments, a couple concerns came to light:
I've been a bit overzealous designing low CC cards as a way of supporting the three keyworded mechanics. This has resulted in a certain unpleasant and dangerous uniformity in costs.
Rhythm, and the various themes designed to support it, makes things a bit "fiddly" in actual play. This might not be a terrible problem, as I've cut out a good deal of board complexity by removing counters from nearly every design other than Immortal Ahriman, but I suspect it may still be a bit much.
As a result, if any visitors would like to nominate cards for either receiving cost-increasing makeover or fiddly-diminishing surgery, that would be appreciated.
Changed wording per suggestion.
Thanks. I'm not sure about the wording, though yours would seem to be a more accurate reflection of what already appears on Obstinate Baloth. I think I made this slightly more cumbersome wording due to some concern about how delayed triggers work.
EDIT - Apparently I mean "replacement effects".
