Moved to rare and rejiggered a bit. Part of vertically connected monowhite lifegain engine.
Altered to fit Pegasus profile (2/1 Flier, no double
); changed code from 04 -> 03.
I'll drink to that!
For further elaboration:
All things considered, I'm typically very hard-lined about color-pie decisions, and as previously mentioned this was originally conceptualized as a
design. So I'm certainly open to an argument rooted in whether "obsolescence" speaks to a different design and color-choice.
Green's ideal of returning "Back to Nature" felt somewhat appropriate, and thus the multicolored first draft, but I wanted it to convey a certain antagonistic and anarchic mood that was (for whatever reason) best expressed in red.
Fair enough. I definitely support the cardset designer's right to emphasise certain aspects of a colour's flavour, and to let flavour drive mechanical choices :)
I still support my decision on the grounds of "more precise flavor". If this were strictly an attempt at making a new Jokulhaups, I'd be expected to destroy all creatures as well. But this is about destroying culture, which to me is a more red concept than any other.
Note that Jokulhaups and Decree of Annihilation all specifically exclude enchantments. I suppose there is precedent in Apocalypse or Warp World, but I still prefer red to not kill enchantments.
FIrst strike was changed to lifelink, as indestructibility and first strike are somewhat redundant.
I'm pretty sure that as long as it's hurting everyone's stuff, it's fine to be in red. That said, this was originally an
design that counted all creatures on the battlefield, but I like the flavor better as an impulsive red decision to destroy all culture.
Awesome card! I love how it attacks the wrong problem, but might still wreck your opponent. It shouldn't be red, though, since this is, among other things, a Tranquility. Green seems fine, though... especially since it keeps the creatures intact.
Thought of jokingly making this cost

and having the ability say "Costs
less for each land you control."

Name change.
Used to make Saprolings whenever you cast an aura. Too much tokening.
The fact that this is an artifact creature does a great job of getting around most pitch spells. Unfortunately, Affinity is going to love this guy. You can exile him to Chrome Mox, not care that the mox doesn't produce mana, and play him off of your artifact land. The fact that that deck packs Welding Jar sometimes is just gravy.>
Edit: Oops! I lied! Chrome Mox says "non-artifact"... that's really weird because it never mattered before Alara... and even then, they probably would have allowed colored artifacts if they knew they were going to do it... weird.
:)
"MODERN FORMAT, I WILL BREAK YOU."
Someone's been stocking up on Serum Powder and wants them to go up in price, haven't they?
The first iteration that Alex's earlier comments refer was actually more or less what you describe, an 8/0 that required a certain condition in order to enter the battlefield with some amount of counters.
I decided NOT to do that in part because I wanted to make it more explicitly connected to Phyrexian Dreadnought. Also, I've successfully avoided using counters on everything except Immortal Ahriman, and I'm hoping to stick to that plan, as the abundance of Token production in the set makes counters a bit problematic.
Oh, neat idea. Vitenka has a point, you could make it "1. 1/1. You can cast ~ from exile. If you do, it comes into play with millions of +1/+1 counters on." I like that because it simplifies the template, but I'm not sure being able to hardcast it makes it look better: I think it more looks disappointing :)
