V, I think you've missed the "from a library" words on here. Which to be fair so did I on first reading.
Goes instantly infinite with any of the rituals. Probably wants an "If you do, exile it" clause or something to prevent that.
Otherwise a very interesting idea; though clearly very powerful.
..assuming you can only cast it at the speed that card could normally be cast. If it lets you cast your opponents sorceries during their turn could be even nastier.
Hee. Turns Glimpse the Unthinkable into "draw 10 cards"... sortof. Clearly very powerful, and yet maybe not broken. Might be a bit good in Dredge, I don't know.
Removed "nonland." Let's go big, huh?
Also... is this Spikey at all?
It also triggers off of your own spells. Does that make it too strong?
Reminds me of Eyes of the Wisent. Of course, this works against any blue mage, not just those playing stuff on your turn...
I was posting the link to The Law more in response to Jack's proposal of "may is must". Abolish works fine under The Law... it has a mana cost, you just don't have the option of paying it.
Oh no! I'm unoriginal! :(
Ha. The first page already presents a small problem in Abolish, which, if it said "must" instead of "may," would just be weird.
The Law :)
I feel like I would have to meticulously comb the Gatherer to make sure that didn't really break something.
Hm. The problem seems to be that must isn't usually used with mandatory effects (they just say "do this") and also, "may" generally justn turns them off, it's only ones that you want on for you and off for the opponent or similar.
But how about the reverse, a card that says "when you may do something, you must if able"? You'd have to be careful to avoid infinite loops, but I hope it would make at least some cards interesting...
Is this too "un-set" feeling? It makes a lot of text boxes silly or pointless, like Goblin Fire Fiend, but they still make sense.
Well, on reviewing the Gatherer further for cards containing "must," this doesn't actually do that much except hose Deadly Allure and flagbearers. I wish Gideon Jura and Alluring Siren used "must," suddenly.
Yep, this is certainly going to be weaker than Snapcaster Mage. The loss of the 2/1 body is huge. I imagine this would turn up rather occasionally in the unusual tournament decks.
Oh. So it does. Fudge.
Well, they made Dark Confidant into Dark Tutelage... not that Dark Tutelage saw much play, right?
I love those decks. I'm such a Johnny. I mean, Gilder Bairn is my favorite card, so that's probably obvious.
Why does this always happen when I DON'T search the Gatherer? lol
Heh. Spontaneous Combustion is already a card, somewhat similar to this, although Rupture is even closer.
Yup :P
Bypassing the mana cost is a very Johnny/Spike thing to do. Avoiding randomness also: see the tournament decks that cascade into Living End / Hypergenesis, which was a great Johnnyish thing to do until Spike realised "Hey, this wins games".
Cut cost by
.
Clearly, my problem is that when I try to design Spike cards, I end up with Johnny cards.
