See Clock In.
I love that version Raptor. My vote is on Madcap Stoke.
You are right. White does get a lot of untap effects at common. Most of the time they are costly but the conditional ones tend to drop in price. I would ere on the side of pricing it at for the moment though. If it under performs in testing, we can always push it back to
So a defender that sacs artifacts to fly? On the defensive, I am not too sure if the sacrifice is worth it. Then, if it happens that your opponent has artifacts, this becomes a monstrous flying attacker. Putting flying on the sacrifice ability makes the card much more swingy. Are we okay with that?
I still think that if we do a real Sky Pirate at rare that this slot does not need flying
I like Grab a piece 2.0
I'd be fine with that. It'd make sense flavorfully too since you'd be "paying" the crew to get off their butts.
I like the Madcap Skills idea but didn't we want to push towards encouraging players to play a lot of Colorless mana rather than just splashing it like in Oath?
I'd suggest something of a hybrid between the last two suggestions:
Madcap Stoke {1)
Enchantment - Aura [Common]
Enchanted creature gets +1/+0 and has Menace.
: Enchanted creature gets +1/+0 until end of turn.
Basically make it so it's not entirely useless for not steampowered limited decks but it still encourages you to play a lot of colorless b/c it scales well in the late game.
Personally, I prefer the Flowstone fix.
Grab a Piece 2.0 seems decent
Isn't this a common effect for white and an uncommon effect for blue?
White is slightly better at this kind of combat trick than blue.
Wouldn't that make it too close to Unity of Purpose? (Which was an uncommon, mind you)
With Upgrade Thopter out of the equation, should we return this to the Totem Armor style it used to have? Or do we intend for those kind of card to return at uncommon/rare?
Welding Armor
Artifact - Component
If upgraded artifact would be destroyed, instead regenerate it and sacrifice Reactive Armor.
Upgrade
As for the cost of this version, I have always seen this card closer to a Argentum Armor style of cards where it comes out late but is a major threat afterward. (Maybe it needs to up in rarity now that I think of it.)
My thought on it: We put the Welding Armor version at common and put something similar to this at uncommon/rare:
Reactive Armor (Rare)
Artifact - Component
When ~ enters the battlefield, attach it to a non-Component artifact you control.
When attached artifact would be destroyed, regenerate attached artifact and unattach this card.
: Attach this card to a non-Component artifact you control.
Upgrade
I think the real "Sky Pirate" card is meant to be a rare (literally stealing stuff (Daring Thief style? Thada Adel, Acquisitor?)) It then makes it so this can be simpler. As for grim's suggestion, we might be able to make it the Sac an artifact gives flying instead and leave it to be an artifact player punish card only.
Grab a piece has potential but might be a bit too strong currently. Maybe with a wording similar to Support, where you can only buff each creature once? So up to the number of creatures in your graveyard?
Grab a piece
Sorcery
Put the top three cards of your library into your graveyard, then put a +1/+1 counter on up to X creatures, where X is the number of creatures in your graveyard.
Forceful drain from Legend is also cool but in our set, would be a dead card against multiple decks. It's primary targets would be planeswalkers and Windup players.
Do we NEED this to work in ? Otherwise, pushing a Madcap Skills style (if not it directly) could be very interesting.
If Madcap itself is too much (it was always insane in limited), we can tone it down a bit:
Madcap Steam
Enchant Creature Enchanted creature has +3/+0
: Enchanted creature gains menace UEOT.
I personally don't like pushing this to uncommon in exchange of keeping this an artifact lord because that does not solve our problem: It will make it increasingly harder for to get lords as will be picking them too for Windup synergy.
I think pushing First Strike up is fine but only if we give this one something else in exchange.
So, Legend's modification is +target, - a token? I would be down to try that. I think it's much better for limited. Makes it a soft-counter to many strategies. Can refrain a creature from attacking, refrain from killing one of your creatures, refrain a UB player from saccing a specific land, etc.
We could also put this on the other side of the spectrum and use this instead:
: Until end of turn, ~ base power and toughness becomes X/X where X is the number of artifacts you control.
Or if we aren't too bothered by the cycle not being entirely creatures:
Prophet's Familiar
Artifact
: Until end of turn, ~ becomes a X/X Construct.
First born of the Prophet, his familiar watches over anyone trespassing into his tower.
I don't think simply ramping the cost is enough for this not to be stupidly good. Also, at that point it still plays like an aggressive Prophet's Lizard..
I'm still thinking this would work well as a Flowstone Wall or (even better) Ravenous Bloodseeker. By using Flowstone instead of Igniting, we correct the problem of late game by needing another effect to abuse the ability. I don't care if you can activate it 5 times in a row because you enchanted this with a "Gains +0/+X where X is artifact count" because it turns into a 2 card combo, not a 1 card combo.
It would also work in a different way to green for the simple fact that green does it all for a higher cost. Red is hyper aggressive for a lower cost at the risk of getting cheesed. (Twin Bolt anyone?)
Wait, woops, I forgot Salvage does benefit from milling. So Deranged Talisman is still good for the slot.
Suggestion
Smog Augury (Common)
Instant
Spend only colorless mana on X.
Scry X. (To scry X, look at the top X cards of your library, then
put any number of them on the bottom of your library and
the rest on top in any order.)
Draw a card.
Suggestion:
Unwind (Common)
Instant
Put a +1/+1 counter on target creature, then untap each
creature you control that has a +1/+1 counter on it.
Deranged Talisman is nice but probably not the direction we'd want
to go anymore. How about a minor upgrade to Manalith?
Mana Crank (Common)
Artifact
: Add one mana of any type to your mana pool.
or
Mana Crank (Common)
Artifact - Component
Upgraded artifact has ": Add {CC} mana pool.
Upgrade
Grab a Piece is too strong for common.
Forceful Drain (Common)
Sorcery
Remove all counters from target permanent. That permanent's
controller puts that many cards from the top of his or her library
into his or her graveyard.
Infringing Patent Rights seems more or than .
Mechanically, Industrialization Process is (still) green.
Has a decision been made on depletion?
Just use vigilance and push the first striker up to uncommon.
Suggestion:
Steam Stoke (Common)
Enchantment - Aura
Enchant creature
Enchanted creature has first strike.
: Enchanted creature gets +1/+0 until end of turn.
Increasing the activation cost will fix it.
And it shouldn't be using "X" at common.
: Until end of turn, Card Name gets
+1/+0 for each artifact you control.
