This should be uncommon. The common version should grant vigilance.

I agree with Legend.

This and Meshblade are the same card, shouldn't we consolidate them?

This one is in the skeleton, so I will post on it instead of Meshblade from now on. As per the comments on Meshblade, this one should grant vigilance. I would also suggest having varied converted manacosts for the Thopter generals. For example :

Common:

{2}{w} 1/2 + one token : Vigilance

{3}{r} 3/2 + one token : fire breath

Uncommon:

{5}{w} 3/3 + two token : lifelink

{r}{r} 2/1 + one tokens : first strike

Rare:

{3}{w} 0/2 + two token : Indestructible

{3}{r}{r} 4/2 + two tokens : +1/+1 to all

C&P'ing from Meshblade:

I was thinking something like this...

Commons:
{w}:Meshblade (changed to Vigilance+Thopter)
{r}:Laserbeam Engineer (Firebreathing+Thopter)
{c}:Seller of Song Thopters (Changed to a colorless Artifact Creature+1 thopter or +2 Thopters w/ steampowered.)

Uncommons:
{w}:(Lifelink+Thopter)
{c}:(Artifact Creatures you control get +1/+1+Thopter)
{r}:(First Strike+Thopter)

Rare:
{w}:???
{r}:???

@Raptor I did see that comment. My focus was more about having varied mana costs than which ability to put on them. We should produce the vertical cycle in a single go to create cards that complement each others and that will not clash if put in the same deck.

Vigilance fliers seem very strong. FS is also strong but at least you only get to either attack or block, not both.

Is the intent for all artifact creatures to benefit, or just the Thopters? I think it'd be better for the cycle of these Thopter producers + buffers to only give benefits to the tokens they make, much like the Golem cycle of New Phyrexia. If that's the case, I weould either suggest "Artifact tokens you control have first strike" or probably the better option is "Thopter creatures you control have first strike."

No, the goal is to have those be artifact lords.

I agree with the artifact token text though. Makes it so the thopter lords won't be picked so much by Windup players.

This is too powerful at common, and yet we still need the thopter tokens. We can make this less powerful in one of two ways

1) Remove the lord line, and put it on a future uncommon/rare creature. This card then becomes a 3 mana 1/2 with thopter on ETB
2) Make this a Thopter or artifact token lord. This is still not enough to account for first strike, which is still powerful, and I would prefer vigilance to be the keyword at common, but this remains flexible. Are we okay having our thopter lords be literally thopter lords instead of artifact lords?

I would go with option 1 personally. I would like the set to have a few artifact lords, not just artifact token lords, and I am fine with the concession of making them at uncommon rarity and higher. Thoughts?

Uncommon artifact lords would probably be fine, it's treading a little close to origins but that probably ok.

A vanilla + token does make the red one look a lot better in comparison though. Perhaps it should parallel the red one more closely?

The red one has the potential to be really powerful, but correspondingly its mana cost is that much harder to pay. This one is consistent and easy to cast, and I like the flavour difference it generates : White is stable and consistent, with easily accessible power, while Red is wild, taking the chance for greatness but risking to be weaker if he fails.

How would you go about making the two closer in design?

on 23 Apr 2016 by Legend:

Just use vigilance and push the first striker up to uncommon.

I personally don't like pushing this to uncommon in exchange of keeping this an artifact lord because that does not solve our problem: It will make it increasingly harder for {r/w} to get lords as {w/g} will be picking them too for Windup synergy.

I think pushing First Strike up is fine but only if we give this one something else in exchange.
